SUMMARY
This position supports both the maintenance and burial goals of the cemetery operations and acts as a working lead with periodic public contact. This position is responsible for supervising and assisting with the work related to burial services and landscape maintenance needs and additionally coordinates, monitors and records workflow, schedules and assists with special projects, responds to customer needs, meets with families for lot sales, and to make burial arrangements.
The Crew Chief is responsible for overseeing the care and maintenance of cemetery grounds, including safe and efficient operation of equipment. Work requires knowledge of landscaping maintenance, data entry and basic computer skills, as well as, monitoring and addressing performance issues. This job is subject to rotating weekend shifts, stand-by-recall, overtime, working holidays and/or call back for emergencies and during all types of weather. We are offering a $2,000 sign on bonus.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
* Oversee day-to-day activities in the field and share in a weekend rotation with other maintenance employees in the division.
* Clear communication with all levels of our division as well as the public. Work is performed onsite at the cemetery and is subject to frequent customer contact.
* Coordination of burial services with funeral homes as well as supervising burial services including opening and closing the burial site, performing pre and post site checks and cleanup, assisting with setup and break down of equipment, laying plywood running boards, leading in services, parking cars, and acting as pallbearer as needed.
* Supervise frontline employees, provide training, perform evaluations, and address disciplinary issues per city policy.
* Schedule preventative maintenance of equipment and tools by conducting inspections, cleaning components, monitoring fluids, performing basic corrective repairs.
* Monitor the condition of grounds and buildings, and schedules work or submits work requests as needed.
* Participate in special projects and training as required by administration.
* Participate in emergency response.
* Submits written daily plans and keys daily work orders into work order tracking software.
* Understands how to read maps and prepare surveys of burial lots.
* Monitors onsite inventory and orders parts or materials as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of subordinates.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and other city software such as Munis, CityWorks and Emerald.
* Ability to deal with employees and the public tactfully, compassionately and courteously.
* Ability to compose effective and accurate correspondence and data entry; complete necessary paperwork in an accurate manner.
* Must have good organizational and communication skills.
* Expected to develop and refine work details and set priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of experience in landscaping or cemetery maintenance and one-year supervisory experience. NC Class A Commercial Driver's License.
