DescriptionAs a Central Supply Technician, you'll play a critical role in ensuring that hospital departments are fully stocked and ready to deliver high-quality patient care. From receiving and organizing medical supplies to managing inventory and delivering essential materials, your day will be varied and impactful. JOB SUMMARY:The Central Supply Technician is responsible for handling, organizing, and maintaining the inventory of medical supplies, equipment, and materials in the central supply department of the hospital. This position ensures that all necessary materials are properly stocked, stored, and distributed throughout the hospital in a timely and efficient manner. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to follow inventory control procedures, and a commitment to ensuring that hospital staff have the supplies they need to deliver high-quality patient care. Reports directly to the Materials Manager. Non-exempt position.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Inventory Management:
  • Receiving and Stocking:
    • Receive deliveries of medical supplies, equipment, and materials from vendors.
    • Verify accuracy of shipments against purchase orders and ensure items are correctly labeled and stored.
    • Stock shelves, bins, and carts with the appropriate items, ensuring supplies are readily available when needed.
  • Inventory Control:
    • Monitor inventory levels and maintain accurate records of stock quantities.
    • Conduct regular cycle counts and assist with full inventory audits.
    • Identify items that are low or nearing expiration and report them to the Materials Manager.
  • Distribution of Supplies:
    • Distribute medical supplies and equipment to various hospital departments as requested.
    • Ensure that all supplies are delivered accurately and in a timely manner to support hospital operations.
    • Maintain clean, organized, and functional storage and supply rooms.
  • Central Supply and Logistics:
  • Materials Preparation:
    • Prepare and assemble kits, trays, and supplies required for surgical procedures and medical treatments.
    • Ensure sterile supplies are properly handled and stored, following infection control protocols.
    • Assist with restocking supply carts and maintaining central supply inventory.
  • Returns and Restocking:
    • Process returned items or unused supplies, inspecting them for damage and restocking as appropriate.
    • Organize and return unused or expired materials according to hospital procedures and regulations.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure proper handling and storage of hazardous materials in accordance with hospital safety protocols.
    • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following infection control and workplace safety standards.
    • Report any discrepancies, damaged goods, or safety concerns to the supervisor.
    Equipment Maintenance:
    • Assist in maintaining and cleaning hospital equipment and materials used for inventory control.
    • Coordinate with the maintenance department for any repair or servicing of central supply equipment.
    • Ensure that tools and equipment used in the materials management department are in proper working order.
    Documentation and Communication:
    • Maintain accurate records of all transactions, including deliveries, inventory counts, and material transfers.
    • Use hospital inventory management systems to track and log supply movements.
    • Communicate effectively with hospital staff and vendors to resolve issues or discrepancies related to materials.
    Skills & Qualifications:
    • Education: High school diploma or GED is required. Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) preferred.
    • Inventory Knowledge: Understanding of inventory management, stock control, and supply chain procedures.
    • Computer Literacy: Proficient in using hospital inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to quickly learn and adapt to new digital tools and technologies for tracking and organizing inventory.
    • Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately monitor and record inventory levels, with a focus on minimizing errors.
    • Experience: Prior experience in materials management, central supply, or inventory control is preferred but not required.
    • Communication Skills: Must possess superior ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages are preferred.
    • Physical Ability: Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy materials and equipment, and working on feet for extended periods.
    Work Environment:
    • Work is typically performed in the central supply and storage areas, with frequent trips to various hospital departments.
    • May involve exposure to temperature-controlled environments or handling of sterile medical supplies.
    • The role requires strict adherence to hospital safety and hygiene protocols, especially when handling medical equipment and supplies.
    FUNCTIONAL DEMANDSFunctional Job Requirements: Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary.
