The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and a willingness to help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as assisting with showering, toileting, grooming, laundry and housekeeping as necessary. As a CNA in the program the job duties are but not limited to:
Turning or moving the people we support (i.e. From wheelchair to bed)
Gathering medical supplies
Documenting food and liquid intake
Checking vital signs such as blood pressure and heart rate
Answering calls
Scheduling/Following up on Appointments
Documenting additional information
Cleaning rooms and bed linens
Stocking supplies
Assisting with some medical procedures with the RN and LPN
Safety procedures
Being familiar with Hoyer Lifts
Taking care of wounds
Adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations
Using effective communication skills & time management skills
Being a member of a highly effective team (Teamwork within the circle of support)
Completing mandatory trainings based on the program and position (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving, etc.), as well as applying skills
Meeting and demonstrating OPWDD Core Competencies
Ensuring health, wellness and safety by managing crisis situations and providing appropriate supervision of the people we support
Demonstrating a willingness to assist people with ADLs
Transporting and escorting people we support on recreational activities, medical appointment, home visits, etc.
Building Positive relationships
Maintaining a therapeutic environment through a variety of methods: Personal Outcome Measures, Person Centered Thinking, Informed Decision Making
Ensuring person centered plans are implemented
Completing documentation to ensure compliance and billing
Using foundational Teaching skills (EMOE, Task analysis, essential skills, supports and modifications,
Schedule:
Full Time: (Varies) Generally includes 1 weekend day
Compensation:
$20.00 - $20.00 hourly.
Requirements:
Active CNA State Certification
High School Diploma or GED ; some college is a plus
Valid Driver's License, NY State preferred
Work or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred
Ability to participate in 3-5 weekdays of paid NYS Mandated OPWDD initial trainings during normal business hours upon hire
Tuberculosis test mandatory for most positions (provided FREE of charge by our Premier HealthCare clinic)
