Plus you get 16 hours of personal time per calendar year (prorated based on your start date, resets every Jan.1). We also have Bereavement, Longevity, Fitness, and maternity/paternity leave.Position Summary:Under the supervision of Resident Care Manager, provide assistance to residents with activities of daily living. Assist residents with dressing/undressing, bath functions, bowel and bladder functions, oral care, hair care, and other direct personal care/services per resident service plan. Assist residents with mobility limitations in transportation to and from meals, activities, and social events; assist residents at meals as necessary. All Andahwod staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* Provide direct resident care as directed by shift supervisor and outlined on resident service plan.* Perform well checks on residents, turn and reposition bedridden patients.* Assist residents with oral care: brushing teeth/dentures, oral hygiene, and any special mouth care as directed.* Assist residents with bath functions: transfer resident into/out of tub or shower and provide assistance with bath/shower as needed. Provide bed bath if indicated. Provide hair and nail care.* Assist residents with dressing/undressing as needed, and changing soiled clothing as needed.* Assist resident with bowel and bladder functions; take to the bathroom, offer bed pan/urinal, bedside commode. Provide personal hygiene for the incontinent resident. Assist with catheter/ostomy care as directed.* Provide eye and ear care; assist residents with hearing aids and cleaning glasses. Assist with eye, ear drops as directed.* Obtain and record temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure as directed. Obtain weights and other measurements as directed.* Assist residents to ambulate with or without assistive devices as directed.* Transfer residents into and out of bed, chairs, wheelchairs, and vehicle as needed; assist resident with WC mobility; escort resident to/from resident apartment, meals, common areas, activities, and social events.* Reposition bedfast resident as indicated per resident service plan. Observe and report the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdown to the direct supervisor. Provide skin care and apply ointments/creams as directed.* Assist with the application of slings, braces, bandages, binders as directed and perform skin checks routinely.* Explain all care to residents, their families and other medical personnel as necessary.* Assist residents with changing bed linens and cleaning rooms, removing soiled items when necessary.* Assist residents with exercise routines.* Serve and collect resident meal trays from apartments.* Set up and maintain equipment such as oxygen tanks and condensers, ensuring oxygen tubing is changed when necessary.* Assist residents with meals, cutting food, and feeding if necessary; record food/fluid intake if indicated. Report changes in the residents eating habits to supervisor.* Check each resident routinely and answer resident calls promptly.* Supervise resident with self-administration of medications. Provide verbal reminders of medication times.* Complete accurate daily documentation of resident services that are provided.* Answer phones and direct visitors as needed.* Maintain documentation and charts interactions with residents and patients.* Report any changes in resident behavior, health status, or injuries to supervisor. Honor the residents refusal of treatment and report to the supervisor any expressed wishes or complaints regarding care services provided.* Assist with laundry and light housekeeping for residents.* Provide companionship to residents by spending time with them and helping complete tasks.* Engage in meaningful, culturally competent activities with residents.* Respect resident rights and privacy. Knock before entering the residents room. Treat all residents fairly with kindness and respect.* Attend all required training and in-services, and any training related to the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribal culture and provide culturally sensitive care.* Adhere to resident confidentiality and comply with department policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).* Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.* Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.* The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:* Direct contact with residents, families, and guests to provide care; may encounter emotionally upset residents, family members, or visitors and must be able to handle difficult situations with patience, kindness, and respect.* Contact with health professionals, staff, Elder Service Program, and community resources to exchange information, for collaboration and consultation, and to provide education.* Contact with other tribal departments providing services to residents.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.* Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of nursing procedures and quality of care.* Knowledge of prescribed and over the counter medication doses, side effects, and interactions for all residents.* Knowledge of long term care nursing practices including patient care charts, patient histories, medical terminology, medical instruments, OSHA guidelines, and blood borne pathogens.* Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including Windows Office programs and EHR.* Ability to obtain accurate vital signs.* Ability to react quickly and make effective decisions in an emergency situation.* Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.* Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.* Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.* Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.Physical Demands:* Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with providing medical care and with computer equipment.* Required to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.* Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.* Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.* Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Work Environment:* Assisted Living Center.* Potential risk of exposure to bodily fluids such as blood and saliva and/or the potential for needle sticks and/or skin puncture.* Latex may be used in the office which can produce allergic reactions.* Potential contact with chemicals and/or cleaning reagents utilized within the facility.* Employee may be exposed to unpleasant odors, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous material and infectious disease.* Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.Minimum Requirements:* High School Diploma or GED.* Certified Nursing Assistant.* Must be able to effectively communicate with residents and all members of the health care team and have good computer skills.* Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.Desired Qualifications:* One year nursing experience.* Experience with older adults.License, Certification, or Special Requirements:* State of Michigan Certified Nursing Assistant.* Must be able to obtain HIPAA certification within five business days from date of hire.* Must be able to obtain BLS Certification within probationary period.* Must have a valid Michigan Drivers License and must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Drivers License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.* Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
