What You Will Do:

As a member of the Finance team, this role will coordinate and participate in technical payroll accounting activities such as the preparation, maintenance, processing, analysis, and auditing of manual and automated payroll data, information, records, and reports and also ensures the accuracy and completeness of payroll transactions.

Your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares payroll reporting for certified payrolls, OCIP/CCIP, and union fringes.
  • Prepares payroll audits, creating garnishment reports, and advising the payroll department on complex transactions.
  • Fulfills wage garnishment requirements by completing forms; adjusting payroll records, documenting, and transmitting withholdings; negotiating with collection agencies to convert garnishments to wage assignments.
  • Remits tax payments by collecting and verifying data; preparing federal, state, and local tax reports, and W2 statements; initiating payment.
  • Assists Payroll Manager to create annual team objectives.
  • Escalates potential service issues to Payroll Manager.
  • Trains team members on new or enhanced operation procedures and policies.
  • Identifies process improvement initiatives and define standards for new processes.
  • Covers for team members in back-up role for vacation and/or high-volume work efforts.
  • Supervises and coaches payroll team and provides training and guidance as needed.
  • Assisting with the annual open enrollment process.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:

  • Associate's Degree in Business or a related job field.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience in payroll and benefits.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience with job costing, prevailing wage, and union environments. -or-
  • Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related job field.
  • Solid knowledge of FMLA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other benefits-related regulations.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Familiarity with payroll software systems/HRIS (e.g. Viewpoint, Paychex).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Proven ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity, and handle and maintain sensitive information in a confidential, timely, and professional manner.
  • High level of accuracy and advanced attention to detail.
  • Ability to relate to all kinds of people, build appropriate rapport, use diplomacy and tact, and encourage collaboration.
  • Exceptional mathematical skills with the ability to analyze, evaluate, and reconcile.
  • Knowledge of payroll, garnishments, and benefit distribution.
  • Ability to function independently by managing work and making decisions based on a mixture of analysis, experience, and best knowledge; demonstrate initiative by pushing to achieve the best possible results for the organization and its employees; proactively seek out opportunities to grow; prioritize work assignments and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent research and analysis skills.
