Title: TBLA Chaplain

Location: TBLA K-12 School, Urban District

Employment Type: Part-Time (10-15 hours per week)

Reports To: Asst. Superintendent

Program Overview: The TBLA Chaplaincy Program is designed to enhance the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of our K-12 students through culturally relevant support and community engagement. This program aims to instill a sense of pride and empowerment among students, fostering resilience and a positive school culture

.Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Theology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

* Experience working in urban educational settings and with diverse populations.

* Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices and emotional support strategies.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a culturally competent approach.

* Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and staff.

* Flexibility to adapt to the dynamic needs of the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Needs Assessment and Planning:

* Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment by engaging with students, families, staff, and community leaders to identify challenges related to social-emotional well-being, mental health, and school culture.

* Collaborate with school leadership to develop a detailed plan outlining the chaplaincy program's goals, objectives, roles, responsibilities, and expected outcomes.

2. Chaplain Selection and Training:

* Actively participate in the recruitment of a chaplain with experience in urban settings, cultural competence, and a passion for community engagement.

* Facilitate orientation and ongoing training for the chaplain, focusing on school dynamics, trauma-informed care, and strategies to celebrate student achievements.

3. Daily Interactions and Engagement:

* Establish a consistent presence within the school, engaging in informal conversations with students and families, and being visible during school events, lunch, and recess.

* Create and maintain a welcoming chaplain's office or quiet room for students and families seeking support and guidance.

4. Support and Counseling Services:

* Provide culturally relevant individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention, emotional support, and spiritual guidance tailored to the unique challenges faced by students.

* Collaborate with school counselors, social workers, and mental health professionals to offer integrated support services.

5. Community Outreach and Engagement:

* Build partnerships with local organizations, faith communities, and community leaders to foster collaboration and a sense of belonging.

* Organize empowerment-building workshops and events that celebrate student achievements, cultural diversity, and school milestones.

6. Program Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:

* Implement evaluation mechanisms to assess the effectiveness of the chaplaincy program and gather feedback from students, families, and staff.

* Utilize feedback to adapt the program to better meet the evolving needs of the TBLA school community.

7. Proposed Schedule and Flexibility:

* Allocate 10-15 hours per week, primarily on Mondays (5-6 hours) for direct student engagement and flexibility for the remaining hours throughout the week according to school events and community needs
