Essential Functions

* Analyzes agricultural products (feeds and fertilizers) for content.

* Calculates and submits all generated analytical reports to either a senior analyst or laboratory manager for review and approval.

* Prepares or assists in the preparation or modification of all solutions and reagents used in the performance of assigned analytical procedures.

* Searches and evaluates new and improved methodology through current scientific literature and journals and suggests implementation of these methods.

* Assists technicians in understanding standard operating procedures used in the performance of analytical procedures to arrive accurate and concise report.

* Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

* Requires completion of four years of college including 32 semester hours in chemistry from a recognized college or university.

* This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.

Preferred Qualifications

* Prefers working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of chemical analyses as applied in analytical work.

* Prefers working knowledge of biochemistry and physics.

* Prefers experience with assuming responsibility for extreme accuracy in analyses.

* Prefers experience setting up and using fragile laboratory equipment.

* Prefers experience with making chemical analyses of various products and substances according to standardized procedures.

* Prefers experience following written and oral directions, formulae and charts.

* Prefers Experience working in an environment typically found in a feed and fertilizer analytical laboratory.

Conditions of Employment

* Requires the ability to successfully pass a background check.

* This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

* Requires a valid Illinois Driver's License.
