Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) is a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York that seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, mission-aligned Chemistry Specialist.The Chemistry Specialist will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.We are seeking a Chemistry Specialist to provide astructured and engaging introduction to the active use of science to our high school students. The ideal candidate will be able to expose students to the use of chemistry through a designedcurriculum and through a series of projects designed by students. The Chemistry Specialist must be able to motivate and maintain the interest of students while setting a positive example. Additionally, the Chemistry Specialist must take a sincere, active, and appropriate interest in the well-being and success of all students.Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma required

- 1 year of experience working in youth development; Bachelor's degree preferred
- Build an inclusive classroom where all students can participate.
- Create basic lesson plans that include Do Now and Exit tasks .
- Be confident and present. Encourage your students to take interest in Chemistry
- Ability to effectively engage students
- Patient, motivated, well organized, with exceptional communication skills
- Dedicated to providing positive outcomes for children and families residing in Harlem
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings
What you will do
- Engage a group of 15-20 high school students in the curriculum that uses project-based learning.
- Design a curriculum that enhances the student's understanding of Chemistry.
- Teach students about the basic concepts of the periodic table, chemical bonds, atoms, and protons.
- Create projects that showcase the use of Chemistry and how it's applied to daily activities.
- Encourage students to analyze and interpret data by using Chemistry projects.
- Coordinate trips, special events, student showcases, and other activities based on Chemistry.
- Assess student problem-solving when analyzing data.
- Implement and demonstrate scientific concepts by using technology and models.
- Record students understanding and prioritize the needs of students understanding of chemistry.
- Perform other duties as assigned
