Cherry Health AmeriCorps
o Cherry Health AmeriCorps is a health-focused AmeriCorps program located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This long-standing program is a recipient of the new Public Health AmeriCorps funding, forming a partnership between AmeriCorps and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The focus of Cherry Health AmeriCorps is to decrease health disparities in underserved communities by providing evidence-based health education, Medicaid enrollment assistance, and supportive services such as interpretation to bridge gaps is health care. Cherry Health is the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in Michigan, with members serving in the greater Grand Rapids area. Cherry Health AmeriCorps provides a diverse and engaging team environment through monthly team meetings and service projects. All members receive Community Health Worker training as well as professional and personal development to prepare members for future educational and career goals. This training positions members to be part of the next generation of the healthcare workforce. Monthly service projects at local non-profits give members the opportunity to positively impact the community above and beyond their service assignments and expand networking opportunities. Member Duties : Service Assignments with Cherry Health AmeriCorps include: Medicaid Application Assistance (Spanish required for some positions); Health education focusing on breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening; Health care interpretation - Spanish required; LGBTQ+ community health resource referrals; Diabetic health education; Social Determinants of Health screening; Community resource referral; Health coaching; Primary care provider referrals; Outreach to mothers and infants with gaps in immunization coverage; Enrollment outreach for the Maternal Infant Health Program; Patient facing health communications; Patient food and clothing pantry coordination; Community events; Service projects; Team meetings
