POSITION PROFILECHIEF ADVANCEMENT OFFICERTwin Cities PBS (“TPT”) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to lead its Institutional Advancement division. This position is responsible for developing, managing, and executing TPT's comprehensive advancement strategy to build, sustain, and grow revenue from diversified sources. These include membership, individual donors, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, partnerships, new business development, and a multi-year capital campaign. The CAO will identify, refine, and articulate TPT's fundraising needs, communicating those needs to internal and external audiences, and generate excitement for the organization's top priorities while ensuring that frontline fundraisers are equipped to advocate for their vision. The CAO is also responsible for ensuring effective, integrated operations within the Revenue Advancement teams and their internal partners in Finance, Technology, Marketing, Communications, Content and the Center for Lifelong Learning. TPT is in the early stages of a $40M capital campaign, and the new CAO will collaboratively lead these efforts with support from TPT's campaign cabinet, comprised of current and former Trustees.

As one of TPT's executive leaders, the CAO is a culture-bearer who will demonstrate TPT's values and honor its legacy, while also championing innovation and growth. The rapid evolution of media and technology requires TPT's leaders to foster an environment that is agile, responsive, resilient and focused on the future. The ideal candidate has a passion for assessing and improving the systems, technology, processes and data capabilities within a revenue division to maximize accuracy and efficiency, measure outcomes and ROI, enhance relationship management, and facilitate data-informed decision-making.

This is a phenomenal career opportunity for a nonprofit leader with a deep interest in the dynamic media sector and the powerful impact of storytelling on culture and civic engagement. Qualified candidates will have experience executing financial growth strategies including both earned and contributed revenue. Extensive knowledge of complex nonprofit fundraising and revenue channels is required, as well as experience with capital campaigns and developing new revenue opportunities. This is a role for an experienced and empathetic change leader to build on the success of a legacy media organization and take it to the next level, optimizing its revenue teams to further TPT's mission and reach its goals.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Leadership

  • Partner with the President/CEO to communicate TPT's strategy, policy, key issues and annual reporting. Serve as a member of the President's Advisory Team within TPT, including serving as staff liaison to the Development Committee of the board of Directors.
  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer to advance TPT's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) goals across all Revenue Advancement Departments.
  • Serve as a revenue-building champion, articulating the importance of fundraising to all internal and external stakeholders.

Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and continuously optimize an enterprise revenue strategy and system that is aligned with TPT's mission, values, and overall vision.
  • Cultivate strategic collaborations to maximize TPT reach and to develop and grow new business and funding opportunities, including the use of patron groups, travel and supporter events.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of transformational and principal gifts prospects.
  • Oversee a comprehensive campaign over the next 36-48 months, including setting clear objectives, timelines, and metrics for success.
  • Engage TPT leaders in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding philanthropic partner prospects and selected principal prospects.
  • Deliver a seamless fundraising experience across physical and digital environments that anticipates prospect, donor and collaborator needs and integrates with their broader TPT engagement.
  • Partner with the VP/Marketing to develop effective funder engagement and communication strategies.
  • Ensure collection and analysis of relevant data to establish KPI's that assess the impact of revenue growth strategies; share these results monthly to enable transparency and predictability in partnership with the CFO.
  • Provide precise and comprehensive budgeting and monthly revenue forecasting, delivering detailed insights into the revenue projections.
  • Manage revenue operations, ensuring teams are enabled with the right technology, organizational structure, processes, and documentation to deliver exceptional experiences to customer segments.
  • Monitor the marketplace, anticipate changes in the fundraising environment, and adjust strategies as needed to take advantage of opportunities mitigate the impact of unfavorable trends.

Institutional Advancement Leadership

  • Lead, inspire, develop and support TPT's Institutional Advancement Division, ensuring teams are strategically and operationally aligned, with shared goals and accountability for improving the customer experience.
  • Coach, advise, give feedback, and help set priorities for the leaders within the Institutional Advancement division. Assist them in setting goals and clearly communicating performance expectations, measure outcomes, and hold teams accountable for revenue performance.
  • Attract, hire, train and retain diverse, high-performing professionals to support TPT's mission, strategic objectives and audience-first focus.
  • Conduct ongoing succession planning, anticipating future needs to ensure TPT's Institutional Advancement team has the sufficient skills, knowledge, and capacity to meet its goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • At least 15 years of management experience and a successful track record of leading, building, mobilizing and retaining high-performing, diverse and inclusive teams. Ideally this will include:

o 10+ years of professional fundraising experience and a broad knowledge base of philanthropic fundraising strategies, programs, tactics and administration

o 5+ years overseeing Advancement team(s), setting strategy, goals and KPI's, measuring outcomes and retaining high-performing managers and staff

  • Demonstrated results soliciting gifts of at least six figures and supporting a capital campaign of at least $20M
  • Proven history of meeting and exceeding aggressive revenue goals and growing revenue within a non-profit organization through new product development, new business ventures, philanthropic stewardship, member services and institutional giving
  • Experience advancing inclusion and equity along with a background working effectively and responsively with individuals of varying identities and experiences
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent professional experience in a related field
  • A track record of leading efficiency/process improvements, which result in heightened customer satisfaction
  • ACFRE or CFRE certification preferred
  • Prior board liaison experience is preferred

  • Successful experience developing and executing both time-tested and innovative revenue strategies and initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to clearly articulate key value propositions and facilitate integrated solutions that leverage technology, enhance efficiency and accuracy, and drive data-informed business decisions.
  • Financially astute with a strong understanding of the key financial and marketing metrics that drive profitability and success.
  • Insightful understanding of market trends and economic principles affecting TPT's business operations, the nonprofit sector, philanthropic funding and the evolving media industry. Ability to anticipate and communicate upcoming changes and adjust strategies as necessary.
  • Inclusive and supportive team leadership skills to hire, train, inspire, assess and develop managers and staff within the Institutional Advancement division. Tactful, effective coaching and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Adaptable and comfortable balancing strategic work with hands-on implementation, with a “no task is too small” attitude.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, creative environment that embraces the sometimes competing priorities of risk management and innovation.

LOCATIONTPT's office is located in downtown Saint Paul, MN. Executive leaders are expected to work on-site at least 4 days a week.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSThe salary range for this position is $200,000 to $220,000 plus annual incentive plan. Compensation includes participation in the comprehensive benefits plan.
