Organization Mission: Oliver Scholars prepareshigh-achieving Black and Latinx students from underserved New YorkCity communities for success at top independent schools andprestigious colleges. We provide crucial support for our Scholarsso they can realize their full potential and ultimately give backto the city, the nation, and the world. Position Summary and Reporting: Reporting tothe Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief DevelopmentOfficer is a key member of the leadership team and willwork closely and seamlessly under the direction of the CEO withDonors, Program team, and Development team to drive fundraisingefforts to support mission impact. At this time, Oliver Scholarsseeks a seasoned fundraising professional who can a) serve as athought partner with our committed senior leadership team; b)create a strategic fundraising program that capitalizes on existingfundraising relationships and opportunities; and, c) serve as afundraising entrepreneur to attract new donors and sponsors withpassion for supporting our promising Black and Latinx students.Succeeding in this environment will require a collaborative andentrepreneurial spirit; the ability to employ a hands-on approachto connecting with a broad array of donors, volunteers, andchampions; and, a deep commitment to our mission. The ChiefDevelopment Officer will collaborate with the organization sleaders, staff, and board members to integrate an informed andenthusiastic fundraising perspective into all aspects of OliverScholars programs and operations. The successful applicant shouldhave proven experience as a fundraising generalist, with severalyears of fundraising management experience in a non-profitorganization of similar size and scope. Immediateriorities The Chief Development Officer s immediate priorities are to: Thoroughly understand Oliver Scholars its mission, values,history, culture, traditions, communities, programs, personalities,constituencies, and governance structure; understand its base offinancial support and the short and long-term funding requirementsof all segments of the organization;Develop strong relationships with, and secure the trust andconfidence of the CEO and other senior leaders working in concertand alignment with the CEO s stated organizational goals andobjectives;Cultivate key alumni, funders, influencers, community members,consultants, and others critical to individual and institutionalfundraising efforts;Actively contribute to and engage with the organization sstrategic planning and goal-setting efforts;Assess and evaluate the Development Department and team; ensurethat the Department is well-structured and able to support annualfundraising goals; andImmediately assess the state of play of in-processfundraising efforts and provide support for those efforts asneeded; assume a hands-on, creative leadership role in theidentification, cultivation, and solicitation of major individualand institutional gifts; and personally cultivate and solicit asappropriate. Responsibilities Develop and Implement a strategic fundraising plan that isoutcomes- and metrics-driven, significantly increases revenue, andmoves the organization closer to a $4M annual goal within fiveyears via diversified philanthropic income, including a strongindividual, corporate, and foundation donor base;Develop a sound case for support that incorporates Oliver smission impact based on the perspectives of Scholars, families,alumni, staff, school partners, and community members;Ensure that institutional fundraising proposals are whollyreflective of the work and values of the organization andwell-written, and that Oliver Scholars remains in compliance withall reporting requirements;Ensure departmental compliance with Oliver s data managementprocedures and processes;Work in concert with the finance department to a) anticipateand plan for the fundraising program s capacity to meet thefinancial needs of the organization via cashflow forecasting; b)manage gift processing and reconciliation protocols and procedures;c) support the execution of Oliver s annual audit; and d) engage infinancial contingency planning with the CEO, Trustees, and financewhen appropriate;Implement stewardship and donor recognition programs via snailmail, email, and multimedia channels (in collaboration with theDirector of Communications and Marketing);Ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate reporting to the CEO,Board of Trustees, and external donors on all fundraisingactivities;Advise the CEO on Oliver s readiness for a successfulcapacity-building campaign and execute a planned campaign under thedirection of the CEO and a Campaign Sub-Committee;Increase corporate sponsorships via events and in-kindcontributions;Support the CEO s efforts to strengthen Oliver Scholars brandrecognition among donors and prospective donors throughout New YorkCity and the surrounding communities;Develop a successful partnership with the CEO to ensure thatthey are prepared for donor engagement opportunities and positionedfor success as the primary spokesperson of Oliver Scholars;Function as a fair and values-driven departmental leader whoencourages interdepartmental collaboration and ensures that thefundraising team has the skills needed to execute Oliver svision. Preferred qualifications Candidates should have the following type of experience andqualifications: 15+ years of successful fundraising experience, with at least 5years as a fundraising manager/director, preferred;Comfort and experience in a technology-driven environment;Broad-based knowledge of various development campaignactivities and tools, including the internet, direct mail, proposaland grant development, annual fund and planned giving, eventplanning and management, direct solicitations, leveragingfundraising databases and support systems for donor segmentation,and research and volunteer management;Exceptional written and verbal communications skills;Demonstrated experience motivating, coordinating and supportingthe fundraising activities of others;A master s degree in fundraising, public administration,business or a related field is preferred, CFRE candidates willreceive priority. Compensation: The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000 annually,along with an exceptional benefits package focusing on employeephysical, financial, and mental wellness. This is a full-time position. There will be the occasionalneed to work extra hours on evenings and weekends to fulfill therequirements of the role. Location: This position is based in New York City, New York. While performingthe duties of this role, you would be expected to be in the officeat least three days per week.
