Job Description:Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the Chief of Palliative and Geriatric Medicine will play a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing our palliative care and geriatric services. This leadership position will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care, promote innovation in the field, and contribute to the growth and success of our organization. This leader will be engaged in administrative leadership and developing robust clinical and research programs. Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for palliative and geriatric care services.
- Lead and inspire a team of healthcare professionals to achieve departmental goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate palliative and geriatric care into the overall healthcare strategy.
- Clinical Oversight:
- Ensure the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered palliative and geriatric care.
- Monitor and improve clinical outcomes, quality of care, and patient satisfaction.
- Provide guidance on complex patient cases and consult with healthcare teams.
- Educational Oversight
- Direct and supervise the Director of the Palliative Medicine Fellowship program which is a bi-campus program.
- Participate in medical education and promote the palliative and geriatric care sections throughout the medical school curriculum.
- Program Development:
- Identify opportunities for program expansion and enhancement.
- Introduce innovative care models and services to meet the evolving needs of patients.
- Foster research and education initiatives in palliative and geriatric care.
- Promote a culture of Diversity and Equity in palliative and geriatric services.
- Team Development:
- Recruit, train, and mentor clinical staff.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
- Monitor and address any issues related to regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
- Medical Doctor (MD) or equivalent medical professional degree.
- Board certification in palliative medicine, geriatric medicine, or both.
- Minimum 5-8 years of clinical experience in palliative or geriatric care.
- Academic scholarship and proven commitment to teaching and academic medicine.
- Proven leadership experience in healthcare management.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and quality standards.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and compassionate service.
