THE OPPORTUNITY

For 45 years, our client, Chinese Community Center (CCC), has been bridging East and West by enriching families with educational, cultural, and social services programs. After 25 years of service, the organization's CEO is retiring, having built CCC into the Westchase District and surrounding area's premier social services organization providing a full spectrum of programs including Senior Health Services, Youth Program, Early Childhood Development, Chinese School, ESL, Employment, Financial Opportunity, and Cultural Programs, among many others. The Chinese Community Center, with initial beginnings as a Chinese School, has grown to become the critical, non-political go-to charitable resource to the Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities whom they originally served, as well as all members of their geographic community reflecting Southwest Houston's rich demographic, ethnic, and cultural diversity.

With a wide-array of programmatic services, a great team in place, and a proud and committed Board of Directors providing their support, the new CEO will be a strong, hands-on nonprofit/social services leader who will build on CCC's rich history and reputation to ensure continued delivery of outstanding services and community impact while steering the organization into the future to assure their continued ability to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the community, and communities whom they serve. This role is located at Chinese Community Center's campus inside Beltway 8 in Southwest Houston, and reports to the Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Organization Mission and Strategy

  • Collaborate with the board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through implementation of strategic planning and community outreach
  • Responsible for implementation of the Chinese Community Center's programs that carry out the organization's mission
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that the Chinese Community Center can successfully fulfill its mission into the future
  • Responsible for the enhancement of the Chinese Community Center's image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations
  • Develop and grow effective collaborations and working relationships with partner-nonprofits and city, county, and related departments and resources (i.e.: Police Department, Disaster Response, etc.) to ensure the Chinese Community Center is positioned to serve its clients populations
  • Build and maintain a strong team and sense of community among CCC leadership and staff to foster a high-performance culture and sustainable talent retention
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant trends and developments in the field

Board Governance

  • Collaborate with the board to fulfill the organization mission, vision, and strategic planning
  • Serve as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors
  • Responsible for leading the Chinese Community Center in a manner that supports and guides the organization's mission as defined by the Board of Directors
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions

Financial Performance and Viability

  • Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Chinese Community Center, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization
  • Responsible for fiscal management that operates within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains the organization in a positive financial position
  • Responsible for fundraising, grant management, and developing other resources necessary to support the Chinese Community Center's mission. Ensure maximization of legacy giving efforts while identifying new opportunities for financial support

Organization Operations

  • Oversee and implement appropriate resources to ensure effective operations of the organization
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into on behalf of the organization

Personnel Management

  • Provide strategic leadership to the management team with recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations and terminations
  • Ensure that sound human resource practices are in place
  • Make sure that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place
  • Maintain a climate and put in place programs to attract and motivate a diverse staff of top-quality people with a particular focus on talent retention
  • Support staff in developing their professional development plans, encourage and nourish their innovation and ownership of program outcomes
  • Facilitate monthly staff meetings to review program/outcome progress and address any program relevant issues
  • Facilitate monthly director/department head meetings to review program/outcome progress, operations, and address any program relevant issues

Marketing & Brand Management

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to enhance Chinese Community Center's brand visibility, community engagement, and overall impact to donor, client, partner, and talent communities
  • Direct the creation of compelling content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and press releases, to effectively communicate the Chinese Community Center's message and initiatives
  • Ensure appropriate marketing messaging and material assistance to support development teams in their fundraising efforts and donor engagement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10 years nonprofit management experience (or equivalent) to include 5 years as a senior level manager with experience managing multiple programs, program development, finance, budgeting & cost management, experience working with external auditors, and reporting skills
  • 5 years' experience working with Government funds, matching funding requirements, meeting community needs and finding new resources
  • 5 years' experience overseeing and managing professional staff
  • Possess a strong understanding and appreciation of AANHPI cultures
  • Fluency in English and an Asian language, Mandarin is strongly preferred
  • Strong experience building fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector
  • Experience working collaboratively with and reporting to a Board of Directors
  • Experience interacting with a variety of constituencies: Board, staff, donors, stakeholders, municipal and state officials, media, and the general public
  • Excellent public speaking, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Strong computer skills sets, including demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems
  • Track record of effective implementation of talent attraction and retention strategies
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Social Services, Education, Public Administration, or related field, Master's preferred

  • Conflict Resolution Skills: Ability to think quickly on their feet and help resolve conflicts as soon as they arise
  • Learner Mindset: Willingness to pursue additional professional development (such as: business development, marketing strategy) to promote continuous growth and development in Chinese Community Center's programs
