The City of Lafayette, Colorado, is seeking a strategic and collaborative Chief Financial Officer. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the City's leadership team, responsible for managing the financial operations of the city. This position involves strategic financial planning, management of city funds, budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting. The CFO will ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and will provide leadership in optimizing the city's financial performance and strategic position.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $164,780 – $197,692 depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

The PositionThe Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the City leadership team, providing fiscal management critical to the City's operational success. The CFO will be a “hands-on” working Director experienced in all areas of finance, with an emphasis on proven expertise in the areas of budget, financial forecasting, and capital improvement planning and financing. Collaboration is a key organizational value; the CFO will work closely with City leadership and staff, and synthesize information from many avenues, including the City Administrator, department directors, staff, and outside agencies to effectively coordinate budgeting, forecasting, strategic plans, and financial resource management to achieve organizational objectives. The City is seeking a CFO who is solution-oriented, committed to public service, and adept at long-term strategic planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for leveraging an existing diverse revenue base while also identifying funding and financing strategies to address the City's long-term capital needs.

The ideal candidate will be a committed professional with a strong background in economics, including strategic planning, fiscal management, forecasting, and budgeting. They will be knowledgeable of municipal finances, operations, and infrastructure, and experienced in issuing municipal bonds. The successful candidate will be a resourceful and strategic thinker, with the ability to manage priorities in a dynamic environment and advise the City Administrator on financial matters.

The DepartmentThe Finance Department is responsible for all financial activity in the City of Lafayette. The department oversees and coordinates financial functions including sales and use tax and business licensing; payroll; accounts payable; accounts receivable and cashiering; purchasing; and utility billing. The department is also responsible for integral financial planning and analysis, cash and investment management, and debt issuance. The department provides financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders including preparation of the audited Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and the annual budget. The Department consists of 11 employees, including a Deputy Finance Director who will support the Chief Financial Officer in overseeing the department. Current key initiatives include assessing the City's capital needs, implementing new financial management software, and updating policies, processes and procedures.
