CFO General Responsibilities:
  • The CFO is responsible for all segments of the accounting functions for MAOF. Responsible for accounting controls, budget, and financial reporting to satisfy informational requirements for the President/Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, agency management, and funding agencies. Participates in upper-level management activities, meetings, and planning sessions.
  • The CFO should possess a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for driving financial excellence in a dynamic business environment.
  • Leads the agency-wide financial operations while contributing as a member of the executive team to project an image of cohesion and transparency throughout the organization.
  • Maintains an emphasis on internal controls and timely, accurate financial information and analysis as part of an ongoing effort to enhance organizational processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Supervise and develop Fiscal Services staff.
  • Oversee all segments of the general accounting function, including the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers of the Agency, preparation of operating and financial statements, reconciliation of accounts, fixed asset control and depreciation, and accrual to meet anticipated liabilities.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records of all financial activities within the agency.
  • Responsible for developing methods and procedures for the preparation of overall Agency and departmental budgets.
  • Responsible for executing financial strategy.
  • Develop plan(s) for growth and reduce expenditures.
  • Assist individual department heads in preparing and maintaining departmental operational budgets, consolidating these budgets, and reviewing actual performance against budgeted performance.
  • Prepare reports for the President & Chief Executive Officer explaining budget deviations and financial performance.
  • Work well with and be responsive to the needs of internal and external constituencies, including the Board of Directors, committees, funding sources, consultants, funders, and Agency Program Directors.
  • Responsible for leading change initiatives, implementing new financial systems, or restructuring processes to improve department efficiency.
  • Assist the President & CEO in developing financial plans.
  • Responsible for the computation and timely payment of all taxes and leasehold and contractual obligations.
  • Responsible for all segments of the cost accounting functions.
  • Prepare, generate, analyze, and present financial reports for all Agency departments, programs, and projects as required by funding terms and conditions.
  • Negotiate bank loans, lines of credit, and other essential financial agreements on behalf of the Agency, as required for cash flow.
  • Prepare for annual and other fiscal audits. Act as liaison with auditors to provide them with materials necessary to complete Agency audits. Prepare documents, reports, worksheets, etc., as required.
  • Prepare and maintain a financial recovery plan for the Agency.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in Accounting, Financial Management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role with increasing progression and responsibility in a senior managerial capacity, overseeing organizational budgets over $250M.
  • Ability to articulate financial strategies and performance metrics.
  • Non-profit experience with knowledge of public and private funding streams is a plus.
  • Strong accounting and managerial skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel and Word; proficient in all other Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, etc.).
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership skills and ability to delegate, motivate, and inspire team members.
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, organization, and written skills.
  • Directs the creation of dashboards and other key metrics that display the program's financial health.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative, collaborative, and diplomatic working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public; work as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Complete projects under tight deadlines even when competing requirements and assignment changes exist.
