Nature and Scope The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) provides leadership, direction, and administration for the departments of Nursing: ensures compliance with established objectives and the provision of quality health care services, acts in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and assists the CEO with other administrative functions as assigned. The CNO is responsible for the direction of the hospitals nursing services and participates as a member of the Executive Leadership Team; sharing authority and responsibility with other executive leaders to assure the provision of quality, cost-efficient healthcare. The CNO utilizes knowledge of organization policies, procedure and systems to plan, organize, delegate and supervise nursing workflow and day to day operations. The CNO provides operational support and administrative oversight of nursing services and contributes to the fulfillment of the nursing role in the strategic plan. Functions as a staff and patient advocate within an environment of service excellence. Facilitates appropriate stewardship of resources. Maintains compliance with Joint Commission and other certifying/regulatory bodies. The CNO evaluates services and staffing on a regular basis, providing visibility and the opportunity for staff to access them. The CNO has a regular physical presence on the nursing units and assumes the role of the patient care primary nurse or assisting in nursing tasks 10% of the time. Provides 24 hour accountability for the department Location We are located at 1065 Bucks Lake Road, Quincy, CA 95971. Compensation Salary Range: $199,908.80 / year Job Status / Shift Information Full-time Qualifications Education: Masters degree in nursing or a related field with at least one (1) year of experience in administration; or Bachelors degree in nursing or a related field with at least two (2) years of experience in nursing administration Current California RN license Current CPR and ACLS certifications. Experience: At least four (4) years of experience in nursing administration or supervision with evidence of continuing education directly related to the job specifications. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Managerial theory and its utilization in an acute care setting. Principles and methods of supervision and training; basic management skills; problem solving techniques. Hospital established policies quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures and Nursing Practice Act of the State of California. Federal and State laws and regulations governing professional aspects of nursing. Plan, organize, supervise and evaluate patient care services. Handle stressful situations, including frequent priority changes and workflow interruptions. Well-developed communication ability, both oral and written. Interpret licensure and accreditation standards. Positively manage change and conflict; apply productive problem solving skills. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and fellow employees. Keep abreast of developments in area of patient care and acute care. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Must meet physical requirements as stated on job description addendum Responsibilities Develops and implements the hospitals plan for providing nursing care, treatment and services to those patients requiring nursing care, treatment and services. Implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of nursing care, treatment and services delivered to patients. Communicates and interprets the PDH philosophy of nursing, plan for nursing care and Patient Care services goals and objectives to the nursing staff, administration, the medical staff and other departments within the organization. Establishes a strategic and conceptual framework for patient care management within the facility, taking into account patient mix, community needs, staff skills and knowledge, available personnel and material resources and healthcare expectations. Ensure that the patient care units and services are in compliance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations and professional organization standards and that quality control programs are maintained as appropriate.
