Job Summary

Bassett Healthcare Network is seeking a dynamic leader for the role of Network Chief of Emergency and Trauma Services. This position is based at Bassett Medical Center and provides oversight of emergency medicine at six locations and convenient care at two locations for the Bassett network in rural, upstate New York.

Bassett Network's emergency medicine visits total approximately 82,500 annually, with the highest volume at the level 3 trauma center at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. A staff of 25 employed physicians and 23 advanced Practice Clinicians provide coverage for the network's six emergency departments, which have a combined bed capacity of 70 system wide. Bassett Medical Center is a STEMI Center and Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Bassett is an integrated healthcare system that serves a rural eight-county region covering 5,600 square miles in central New York. It is a major teaching affiliate of Columbia University and an affiliate of the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Job Responsibilities

The Department Chief will report to the Associate Chief Clinical Officer and will have opportunities grow and advance Emergency Medicine through the following responsibilities:

  • Providing visionary leadership to Bassett Emergency Medicine by fostering a culture of excellence in clinical care, education, and research. This responsibility entails creating a departmental structure designed meet the needs of specific locations and scope of service for the entire system.
  • Ensuring consistent standards across all Bassett emergency medicine and convenient care locations through quality improvement initiatives to measure and enhance patient safety, throughput, and outcomes.
  • Overseeing staffing levels, workflows, and clinical activity to ensure safe, appropriate, and timely patient care.
  • Leading critical interdisciplinary collaborations with nursing, care coordination, critical care, hospital medicine, trauma, stroke, and other key stakeholders.
  • Leading recruitment and retention efforts for the six emergency departments including providing support for the APC Fellowship program.
  • Managing the Department's budget and other financial resources effectively and in line with organizational standards and goals.
  • Providing leadership across the organization through membership on various leadership and operational committees and workgroups.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Licensure

  • MD/DO or equivalent with current Board certification in Emergency Medicine.
  • New York State medical license or eligibility for New York State medical license.

Experiences and Competencies

  • Proven leadership experience demonstrating excellence in the clinical practice of emergency medicine
  • Proven experience in leading quality initiatives, practitioner recruitment, program administration, and/or research administration.
  • Effective and strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capacity to lead and create a culture of engagement and teamwork
  • Track record of cooperative working relationships, demonstrating an ability to address stakeholder concerns.

The annual salary for this role is $475,000 to $531,000 with a sign-on bonus of $100,000. This range represents Bassett's good faith belief for the range at the time of this posting or advertisement. Salary is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
