Job Description:
SUNY Delhi is looking for a law enforcement leader with extensive experience and knowledge, strong supervisory, management, interpersonal, and communication skills, and a commitment to community policing in a higher education setting. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a student-centered approach and a dedication to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the police department and across the campus.
The position duties include:
* Administration and supervision of the University Police Department, which includes 10 sworn officers (3 lieutenants), 4 dispatchers, an office assistant, and student staff members.
* Maintenance of law and order on campus and enforcement of Federal, State, and local laws, as well as SUNY and campus regulations.
* Development of preventive and security techniques to enhance campus safety.
* Serving as the campus liaison with SUNY, Federal, State, and local law enforcement officials and agencies.
* Department goal setting and assessment Facilitate the full accreditation of the University Police Department in accordance with the standards set by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
* Scheduling, evaluation, and training of all personnel in the University Police force.
* Review and supervision of all reports, incidents, and investigations, ensuring compliance with all Federal, State, and local reporting requirements, including the Clery Act, VAWA, Title IX, and NYS 129B.
* Supervision of parking administration and shared responsibility for campus emergency preparedness, response, and oversight of emergency communication systems.
* Development and utilization of technology systems such as video and card access security systems to enhance campus safety.
The Chief of University Police reports to the Vice President for Student Life and is a key member of the Student Life Leadership team. The Chief will act as a liaison with the faculty of the campus Criminal Justice program, serve on campus committees, and engage with campus administration, faculty, staff, and students.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree in a related field or completion of Bachelor's Degree within 1-yr of hiring
* NYS certified police officer or eligible for NYS police officer certification
* work history of progressively more responsible police experience
* Minimum of 7 years of experience at a command level (e.g., lieutenant, investigator, deputy chief, assistant chief)
* extensive investigatory experience
* NIMS certification appropriate for police chief level
Preferred Qualifications:
* A Master's Degree in a related field
* Experience in police administration at a college or university
* Experience in parking administration
* Experience with technology applications in police work
* Experience working with and serving diverse populations
* Experience as administrator in a collective bargaining environment; and experience with budget planning and administration
