Supervises radiation technologists to ensure high standards of treatments and quality patient care. Ensures all technologists, in both Falmouth and Hyannis can perform at the required level of competency, meeting job and regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
Description:
Delivers Radiation Therapy to patients, explains procedure and makes patient comfortable. Performs CT Simulations. Assists physician with administration of radiographic contrast media. Observes radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.Schedules patients on treatment machine using computerized scheduling system. Coordinates treatment times with Medical Oncology scheduled treatments/appointments. Maintains continuous contact with patients, frequent contact with Nurses, Physicians, Dosimetrists, and Physicists.Oversees the technical activities within the Department. Monitors technical quality of all procedures, analyzes problems and recommends solutions.Responsible for selection/training and orientation of assigned personnel. Develops standards of performance and supervises technologists. Evaluates performance and initiates disciplinary actions. Assists in resolving grievances.Ensures the continuing education and training needs of assigned employees are met:Assesses learning needs and identifies needed education and training for employees to meet job requirements and/or comply with regulatory requirements and organizational policies.Coordinates with Chief Physicist to ensure needed education and/or on-the-job training are provided to employees. Provides clinical instruction to staff for competency development. Develops standard operating procedures.Maintains and updates clinical competencies for radiation technologist positions and modalities.Maintains files on licensed technologists. Maintains and verifies continuing education credits of registered technologists.Educates staff on new or revised policies and procedures. Develops safety, quality assurance, infection and environmental control policies and procedures in collaboration with Executive Director and oncology leaders.Monitors departmental statistics and prepares reports weekly. Organizes data for quality assurance. Communicates information between physicians, nurses, physicists and all staff and patients to ensure cooperation and quality patient care.Supervises clinical education and evaluation of students.Ensures equipment is in safe and satisfactory working order in collaboration with physics staff.Reviews patient accounts to ensure proper billing under the direction of the Department Manager.Demonstrates professional leadership in radiation therapy practices, concepts, principles, and interventions. Participates in committees as requested. Maintains professional growth and development through approved seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. Keeps abreast of latest trends in the field of expertise and meets or exceeds requirements of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Massachusetts State License Board.Performs other work-related duties as requested/directed.Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.Challenges current working practices; identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations and solutions to management. Engages and commits to the organization's culture of continuous improvement by actively participating, supporting, and promoting CCHC Pillars of Excellence.Qualifications:
- An Associates of Science Degree required. Bachelor of Science degree in Radiation Therapy, Medical Radiation Sciences or other healthcare-related field of study preferred.
- Two to three years' experience as a Radiation Therapist.
- Two to three years leadership experience.
- Registered by A.R.R.T. and licensed in the State of Massachusetts.
- Knowledge, skills, and experience in process improvement.
- Ability to engage staff and work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider within 3 months of position.
