POSITION DETAILS:

Grant funded; part-time; up to 30 hours per week; 8:30am-3:00pm or 9:30am-4:00pm Monday - Thursday and 9:00am-1:00pm on Friday; pro-rated benefits.

This position assists with implementation of child development services at Family Partnership while assuring the education, care, safety and well-being of all children under his/her care. Supervision is received from the Child Development Supervisor.

NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions. For transfers and promotions, wage rates are calculated per County policy.

* Partner with parents to support and promote children's safety, well-being, and healthy growth and development in a manner that reflects best practices of child development

* Support the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate learning activities for children 6 weeks through 4 years of age based on individual child's strengths, interests and needs

* Assist with facilitating Parent and Child Together (PACT) activities that are appropriate for children of diverse backgrounds

* Establish and maintain positive rapport with children and parents; model positive and appropriate interactions with children and parents at all times

* Provide general classroom support, and targeted support for individual children, as needed

* Complete weekly observations of children and enter observations notes into data management system

* Assist with tracking the completion of developmental screenings and other child development services

* Assist with clerical tasks that support the Child Development team

* Participate in staff meetings and trainings

* As needed, operate a County vehicle to transport participants to/from the FP center

* Perform other related duties as required

* High school graduation or the equivalent

* Minimum 1 year of supervised classroom experience with children 6 weeks through 4 years old

* Possession of a valid automobile operator's license

* Current certifications in First Aid and CPR (infant/child and adult) as required by childcare regulations, or ability to be so certified within 90 days of hire

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

* Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges

* Ability to effectively model appropriate interaction between young children and parents/guardians/caregivers

* Ability to work with sensitive, personal information and maintain confidentiality

* Accurate math and computer technology skills with the ability to effectively complete logs, reports and other departmental record keeping

* Ability to access and utilize computerized systems and office equipment

* Strong clerical skills with ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and program documentation

* Ability to build a trusting, collaborative partnership with families

* Ability to effectively develop and maintain positive working relationships with persons of diverse educational, cultural and economic backgrounds, public officials and program administrators, co-workers, program participants, and the general public

* Ability to effectively perform job duties individually and as a team player

* Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:

* 90-hour Early Childhood Education Certification

* Secondary written and spoken language skills in Spanish

* Child Development coursework (high school or college level)

* Experience operating a 15-passenger van or similar vehicle to transport young children and adult passengers

* Experience working with children 6 weeks through 4 years of age and their parent(s) in a Maryland Family Network family support center or a similar program where parents and their young children attend together and receive child, parent, and family services

* Experience using data management system (e.g. Teaching Strategies Gold) for early childhood assessments

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

* While working in this position, the employee is required to frequently walk, stoop, lift up to 20 pounds, reach, and perform repetitive motions; occasionally lift between 20-50 pounds, push and pull up to 40 pounds and drive.

* While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly work indoors, has potential exposure to infectious diseases; frequently required to wear protective equipment; and occasionally work outdoors.

* The grants that fund these positions will determine the duration of these positions.

* This position is subject to random drug testing

* Current certifications must then be maintained

* Availability to work a varied schedule to include evenings

KIND OF EXAMINATION (may include):

* An evaluation of training and experience

* One or more interviews, including a two-hour observation in the classroom

* A pre-employment physical exam

* A pre-employment drug test, without marijuana

* A pre-employment fingerprint supported background investigation

* A pre-employment background investigation through a public records search
