Child Life Specialist III - Novant Health : Job Details

• Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Recreational Therapy, Psychology, or related field, required. Graduate Degree, preferred.
• Experience: 5 years, required. A total of 10,400 hours as a Certified Child Life specialist or 8,320 hours with a Master's degree, required.
• Licensure/Certification: Certification - Assoc of Child Life Professionals, required.

The Child Life Specialist III assesses the emotional, developmental, educational, and diversionary needs of hospitalized children and coordinates therapeutic interventions to address the medical, procedural, surgical, and diagnostic experiences of patients and families. Plans and implements programs and services to meet the needs identified for assigned clinical population and the child life department, which may include supporting children affected by the hospitalization of an adult. Promotes and practices the delivery of high quality family centered care and services for patients and families. Participates in the education of the multidisciplinary team on child life strategies for providing optimal care for pediatric patients and their families. Arranges visits with schools and other communication organizations to provide education about a patient's disease, treatment plan and/or limitations. The Child Life Specialist III will possess advanced clinical skills and serve as a role model for peers and other staff, precept new child life staff, mentor established staff, provide departmental and interdisciplinary education, and coordinate clinical program development activities. Yearly maintenance must be performed to maintain Child Life Specialist III status.
