Job Description :
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.
  • Case Initiation
  • Establishment of Parentage if necessary
  • Expedited Process
  • Refer potential fraud cases to the Financial Assistance Unit and work with the Fraud Investigator as needed
  • Work with other states via UIFSA petitions
  • Review and verify address and employment information for case integrity. Keep PRISM information up to date so that automated processes work as they should - income withholding, interfacing with other systems, locate assists.
  • Communicate with custodial parents, non-custodial parents and employers regarding income withholding, medical support, and childcare
  • Monitor cases for childcare and medical support compliance
  • Review cases for modification of obligations upon request of either party and/or agency. Initiate legal process for review action when appropriate
  • Review cases for payments. Refer cases to County Attorney if contempt action is needed. Attend and testify at court hearings
  • Interact/assist financial assistance unit regarding child support, medical support, insurance and childcare obligations
  • Customer Service
  • Attend and participate in state workshops, trainings, and regional meetings relative to child support
  • Attend agency staff meetings
  • Public Awareness - county fair, videos, questions from public regarding child support program
  • Notary Public
  • Assist in and/or develop agency policy and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Agency Director
FREEDOM TO ACT AND PROBLEM SOLVINGChild Support Officer is responsible and accountable for making case decisions in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Child Support Officer must exercise professional judgment, critical thinking, and in-depth analysis of information collected from clients and data sources to accurately interpret and apply policy to ensure enforceable Court Orders and program integrity. Child Support Officer is responsible to prioritize and organize tasks to ensure performance standards are achieved. The Child Support Officer has the freedom to make decisions and collaborates with Supervisor, County Attorney Office, and internal departments.JOB RELATIONSHIPS:Internal interactions with: Collaborates with all departments/staff within Human Services, Judges, County Attorney, Court Administrator, and Law Enforcement.External interactions with: Attorneys, Child Support Magistrates, Department of Economic Security, Department of Revenue, Department of Defense, Social Security Administration, Department of Corrections, Worker Compensation Insurance Companies, Medical Providers, Schools, Employers, Financial Institutions, other Counties, Genetic Testing Companies, State Agencies, Public.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Preferred experience consists of department experience or private sector experience in legal support, collections or other jobs with frequent public interaction requiring use of communication skills.Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret diversified, complex data, legal documents, IRS forms, insurance information, technical procedures, government regulations, etc. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to effectively interview clients, present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public. Multilingual skills are beneficial.Mathematical and Computer Skills: Basic computation skills i.e., ability to calculate figures and amounts such as annual income, interest, percentages. Ability to enter and retrieve data from a computer system using specialized programs. Basic computer skills required. Ability to use/operate office equipment such as computer, telephone, fax, copier, printer, scanner, and miscellaneous department tools and equipment.Reasoning Ability: Considerable ability to solve complex problems and deal with varied situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of complex policy and procedures furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. To remain objective and non- judgmental and to complete work accurately and timely in accordance with state and federal regulations. Ability to handle confidential information and follow data practices requirements. Ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced, demanding, and constantly changing work environments while maintaining strong critical thinking, communication, and organization skills.The employee is responsible and accountable for daily determinations of court ordered obligation amounts and possess the ability to correctly assess and apply federal and state laws.
