Job Type Part-time Description Position: City Ambassador Department: City Manager's Office Employment Status: Permanent Part Time Non-Exempt Schedule: Wednesday-Sunday Availability to work nights and weekends. Compensation: Grade 3: Salary range starting at $18.11 POSITION SUMMARY The City of Morgantown is hiring City Ambassadors to help create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works, and visits the downtown and Hazel Ruby McQuain Park areas. Ambassadors will engage actively with the public in a friendly and professional manner, provide tourism information, and direct people to resources when aid is needed. Ambassadors will also help keep areas clean and safe with litter removal, window washing, painting, and other duties as assigned. They interpret and explain city policies and procedures as well as report ordinance violations. Ambassadors also work with volunteer groups, local organizations, and assist with public events. They represent the city favorably and both establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES - KNOWLEDGE - SKILLS - ABILITIES • Public engagement and hospitality. • Actively acknowledge pedestrians with a friendly greeting and identify visitors to provide directions, information and recommendations throughout the downtown Morgantown and wharf areas. • Serve as first to scene when required and contact appropriate EMS and/or Police assistance. • Function as extra eyes and ears for law enforcement. Report illegal activity. • Identify individuals who need assistance and provide referrals for services and assistance with bus service. • Remain calm, focused, and compassionate in stressful situations. • Report code violations • Identify maintenance issues and submit work orders using the City of Morgantown's website. • Provide safety escorts. • Report complaints. Keep program metrics. • Regularly interact with businesses. • Assist with public events. • Provide litter and cigarette removal, window washing, painting, and graffiti removal when necessary. • Wipe down surfaces and kiosks to remove dirt and grime. • Close and secure identified areas. • Exhibits natural ability to trouble shoot and problem solve. • Other duties as assigned. • Knowledge of downtown Morgantown and the surrounding area is strongly preferred. • Positive demeanor. • Ability to work and interact with the public in a friendly and professional manner. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • This position requires frequent exposure to physically demanding, unpleasant, strenuous and/or hazardous elements. • Exposure tolerance to all outdoor environmental conditions that may be experienced year-round in the area. • Must be able to bend, twist, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs. • Ability to stand up and walk for up to 8 hours during a shift. USE OF TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT • Position has daily use of computers for data entry and use of the telephone, radios, fax machine, copier, etc. Position has daily use of light equipment such as push mowers, weed whackers, pole saws, custodial equipment, etc. CONTACT & SUPERVISION • Position involves frequent internal contact and regular contact with outsiders generally on routine matters, including contacts with irate outsiders which require some public relations skill for taking complaints for others to follow up upon. • This position does not supervise any employees. • Reports to the Lead City Ambassador. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: • Highschool Degree or Equivalent. Certification/License: • Successful completion of City Ambassador training, CPR, and other trainings as required. Experience: • 1-3 years of experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Some college and/or trade background preferred. • Military, security guard or social services background. Salary Description Compensation: Salary range starting at $18.11/HR
