The Civil Engineer I performs entry-level professional civil engineering assignments; assists in planning, coordinating, and conducting the design and construction of street, park, utility and other public works projects and programs, and prepares plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E). Responsibilities may include mapping, permitting and archival functions, and assisting members of department staff on various projects and day-to-day activities. Contract administration duties such as responding to complaints from residents, locating parts for contractors, inspecting work in progress, reviewing contractor invoices, or negotiating change orders. The Civil Engineer II performs a variety of professional civil engineering assignments related to the design and construction of street and bridge improvements, storm and sanitary sewer systems and traffic systems. Coordinates the work of engineering staff as relates to assigned engineering projects.
