JOB DESCRIPTION
The person in this position constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building code. The carpenter Installs, maintains or repairs other building structures, fixtures, and furnishings including, but not limited to: carpet, drapes and shades, wall coverings, windows and doors, vinyl and ceramic tile, concrete, and roofing materials. Other job-related duties will be performed as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
* Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Must provide transcripts of highest level of education within 30 days of employment.

* Must pass a basic skills test.
* Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training is a required condition of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
* Applicant must have a minimum of two (2) years full-time experience in the past five years as a journey level carpenter in facility construction, maintenance, and/or repair. 2
* High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
* Demonstrate the high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a journey level trades worker in the responsibilities listed under the headings Essential Duties and Responsibilities , General Requirements , Physical Demands , and Work Environment .
* Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License with a clear driving record. (Applicant will be required to provide a current abstract of their driving record.)
* Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
* Evidence of ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System. (CMMS)
* Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to evaluate and repair multiple building materials.
* Evidence of ability to be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
* The ability to assess and correct issues involving safety; read and interpret plans, construction drawings, and blueprints.
* Show a history of dependability and punctuality, along with positive evaluations and recommendations.
* Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize in order to meet the district's needs and deadlines.
* Evidence of ability to determine the scope of work and materials needed, and make cost estimates for projects.
* Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative, and effective relationship with fellow employees, shop lead persons, district staff, and administrators.
* Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
* Physically able to do the required work, including: heavy and sustained lifting of more than 35 lbs., squatting, bending, stooping, carrying, climbing of ladders, and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding.
* Roofing repair experience with three-tab, built up roofs, single ply, and EDPM.
* Concrete experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Safely operate all wood working tools (including, but not limited to, joiners, shapers, band saws, skill saws, routers, planers, table saws, nail guns, and drills).
* Build walls, partitions, stairs, ramps, landings and decks, cabinets, shelves, etc.
* Repair doors, windows and window coverings (such as drapes, curtains, and blinds), ceilings, roofs, walls and wall coverings (including but not limited to: dry-wall, plywood, ceramic tile, and vinyl or Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic), fascia, soffits, furniture, floor coverings (including, but not limited to: carpeting, vinyl tile and roll goods, and ceramic tile), cabinets, and shelving; repair various types of roofs as required.
* Hang and trim windows, doors, bulletin boards, chalkboards, whiteboards and cabinets.
* Install, maintain or repair shock-absorbing, light reflective, sound-deadening, and decorative coverings to ceilings, walls and floors.
* Install room accessory items such as shelving, cabinets, map hangers, projection screens, towel and soap dispensers, pencil sharpeners, TV and VCR mounts, etc.
* Support the movement of classroom furniture, cabinets, and equipment and related classroom and office items.
* Work closely with, and communicate with, the shop lead person and the Buildings and Grounds Manager.
* Report problem areas and safety hazards in or on school facilities.
* Layout, cut, drill, miter, sand and otherwise prepare materials, and to use said materials in the fabrication of various end products (including, but not limited to, lumber, plywood, particle board, plastics, and glass).
* Provide assistance to and/or coordinate with other employees and trades in order to accomplish the highest possible quality and quantity of work in the least amount of time, without causing undue hardship for other craftsmen or shops.
* Submit finished work orders promptly; complete with all hours worked and related costs.
* Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
* Assist in the creation and implementation of a calendar-based preventative maintenance system.
* Enters time and materials into electronic work order system.
* Generates work orders for preventative maintenance and other needed work.
* Performs other related jobs and duties as assigned.

* Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimal numbers. Ability to calculate percentages, discounts, proportions, area, circumference, and volume.
* Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in diagram form. Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
