The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a diverse portfolio of Claims Handling from Professional Liability, EPL, and General Liability. This role requires a deep understanding of insurance law, exceptional negotiation skills, and a knack for identifying and managing risk. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effectively managing and resolving complex claims. Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing the litigation process for claims to mitigate potential company losses.
- Evaluating moderately complex claims through coverage analysis, investigation, and collaboration with external counsel when necessary.
- Drafting legal correspondence of moderate complexity to parties involved, utilizing various communication methods such as email, fax, or mail, and maintaining accurate claim records in both physical and digital formats.
- Engaging with agents, policyholders, claimants, and attorneys to provide updates on claim status, respond to inquiries, and address payment or denial decisions.
- Representing the company at court proceedings, including mediations, settlement conferences, and trials, as needed.
- Assigning and managing claims handled by external counsel, ensuring adherence to company policies and approval processes for associated charges.
- Negotiating claim settlements within defined limits and seeking appropriate approvals for exceptions.
- Conducting legal research and addressing miscellaneous legal tasks as required.
- Offering guidance to less experienced team members, such as reviewing settlement decisions and denials.
Position Requirements and Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent education and/or experience in a related field.
- Active licensure to practice law in the relevant state(s).
- A minimum of two to five years of relevant legal or professional experience in insurance claims.
