NOTE

Ferndale School District is hiring a Behavior Paraeducator at Horizon Middle School. This is a continuing position, working 6 hours a day, paid at the Specialized Para pay rate, starting as soon as possible

SKILLS/JOB REQUIREMENTS FOR SPECIALIZED PARA, INCLUDING; STUDENT SPECIFIC, LIFESKILLS, AUTISM, PRESCHOOL AND/OR BEHAVIOR PARAEDUCATOR POSITIONS

* Experience with students who may have a range of behavior, cognitive and/or physical challenges and/or disabilities desired.

* Provide support for physically, emotionally and/or behaviorally challenging students in a self-contained, resource or general education setting.

* Work with preschool, life skills and/or behavior team.

* Heavy lifting may be required.

* Willingness to feed and attend to student hygiene care/needs (i.e. diapering/toileting).

* Implement positive behavior intervention strategies.

* Implement emergency protocols.

* Willingness to be trained in Aversive Therapy techniques.

* Assess emergent situations and intervene to defuse situations using conflict resolution, crisis intervention, restraints, or assisting staff as appropriate and as trained.

* Lifting requirements may be greater than 50 pounds in middle school/high school environment. Training will be provided on proper lifting techniques or training on lift equipment.

* At least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent (add below-attachments). Transcripts with Associate Degree or higher and Transcripts that list the high school that you graduated will be accepted in place of a high school diploma.

* Receive a passing grade on the education testing service paraeducator assessment; ETS.org Para Pro Test (add below-Highly Qualified Attachment)

OR

* Hold an associates of arts degree (add below-Highly Qualified Attachment)

OR

* Have earned seventy-two quarter credits OR forty- eight semester credits at an institution of higher learning (add below-Highly Qualified Attachment)

Benefits

Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours in a school year are eligible for medical, dental, vision, LTD, and life insurance. In addition, employees working at least 70 hours per month for at least 5 months are required to enroll in the Washington State Retirement System
