The Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) is comprehensive energy legislation that was signed into law by Governor Pritzker on September 15, 2021. It aims to incentivize renewable energy development, accelerate electric vehicle adoption, create statewide clean energy workforce training programs, and support communities facing energy transitions. CEJA is particularly focused on growing the clean energy workforce and helping clean energy businesses grow, with a priority on Illinoisans living in communities that have historically faced economic barriers and environmental damage.
The scope of this position involves ongoing outreach, essential employment skills and support for participants enrolling in the Climate Works Pre-Apprenticeship. This will include a close working relationship with the entire CEJA team for the provision of timely supportive services to ensure participant's successful completion of training. This position will also focus on transition and follow up support to ensure successful placement and retention in work or further training.
Key Measurable Expectations
* Conduct outreach and recruitment activities in the community to identify and engage equity eligible participants for the pre-apprenticeship training program.
* Coordinate with Energy Transition Navigator to provide orientation, assessment, and enrollment services to potential participants and assist them with the application process.
* Provide ongoing support, coaching, mentoring, and retention services to participants during the training program and help them overcome any barriers or challenges. Administer assessments, analyze, and interpret results with participants.
* Assist participants with gaining a better understanding of their own interests, abilities, and personality characteristics.
* Advise participants with the selection of appropriate clean energy and trades-related educational and career objectives in an effort to develop plans to reach those goals.
* Review materials with participants such as interest profiles, aptitude tests, health reports and attendance records to help them to identify potential barriers to success.
* Collaborate with the Climate Works Barrier Reduction team to ensure access to barrier reduction services and supports for participants, such as transportation, childcare, tools, and equipment.
* Maintain close connection with participants during training and provide academic support services to meet unique needs of the participants in the program.
* Assess for the need and provide referrals to additional social service agencies when appropriate.
* Provide instruction of employability essentials and career development skills to assist participants in transitioning to clean energy trades or advanced training opportunities, including providing guidance with resume drafting, mock interviews, application preparation and job search assistance.
* Coordinate the offering of stipends to support participation, retention, and completion of the training.
* Continue to offer services to participants for at least one year following initial engagement in an effort to assist participants in meeting career goals.
* Coordinate and provide regular updates with CEJA Hub Manager.
* Document student performance / progress, lessons learned, and best practices that can improve overall effectiveness of programming.
* Participate in meetings, trainings, and events related to the Climate Works Pre-apprenticeship Training Program and the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and training
* Demonstrate strong commitment to assisting equity-eligible adults to succeed in innovative clean energy related-training and workforce programs.
* Knowledge of human / social service and health resources in the local community.
* Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
* Deep commitment to supporting and promoting and equity-focused culture.
