The Clerk I performs entry-level clerical work. The Clerk is responsible for performing routine administrative support services for the Medical Clinic and other areas of the hospital. Work involves compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, transporting documents, and maintaining files. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

2. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, routine word processing and personal computer related work, such as producing correspondence reports, tables, forms, programming materials, and other documents and data entry and retrieval.

3. Develop and maintain a multi-dimensional recordkeeping/filing system.

4. Receive, review and route incoming mail to proper personnel.

5. Independently compose replies to correspondence, within scope of authority, or based on verbal instructions from supervisors.

6. Serves as liaison with other departments/staff as required.

7. Assists Nurse Administrator with administrative projects as necessary.

8. Also functions as time gatherer for the units.

9. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge in clerical work.

Knowledge of business or program terminology, office procedures, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic; of warehousing procedures; of purchasing policies and procedures; of records administration and maintenance techniques and procedures; and of state purchasing policies and procedures.

Skill in using personal computer and office equipment.

Ability to make arithmetic computations; to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; and to transfer stock from one location to another; and to maintain files.

Ability to achieve 85% on spelling test and 35 wpm or above on typing test preferred.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

None Initial Selection Criteria:

Clerical experience.

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Education and experience may be substituted for one another.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare workers are at significant risk for acquiring or transmitting hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and influenza. All these diseases are vaccine preventable. As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with individuals. In the event you choose to not be immunized for the influenza virus, you may be required to wear a mask and take other protective measures.
