Job Overview

This is a union position.

Pasadena Outpatient Behavioral Health Services provides comprehensive mental health services for our community ages birth through older age. Our continuum of care ranges from prevention and early intervention to intensive outpatient services for those with more

serious and chronic conditions, including Full-Service Partnership (FSP) services. Staff provide services at our Prototypes sites and in the

community. These services can include individual and group services, medication support, case management, and coordination with

other healthcare services.

The Client Safety Navigator is responsible for supporting a safe environment for all clients, staff, and visitors, and utilizes verbal de-escalation strategies to address crisis situations and client behavioral issues. The Client Safety Navigator ensures the building space and site are safe and secure, and develops relationships that support site safety with clients who spend time at the Outpatient site. Support may include targeted case management, crisis intervention, and other client services.

Key Responsibilities

Client Services:

* Develops relationships with clients who spend time on-site that supports site safety.

* Support may include targeted case management, crisis intervention, and other client services.

* Supports monitoring parking lot, restrooms, entrances, and exits,

* Checks in clients and visitors as assigned

* Works with program leadership, Sherriffs/local law enforcement, and health and safety teams to respond to client emergency and crisis situations at the program, including client drug use, overdose, programmatic interruptions, and other situations

Safety Responsibilities:

* Supports a safe and orderly environment for clients, staff, and visitors.

* Directs and deflects traffic; de-escalates tense, high pressure, and emotionally charged situations; and fosters a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment.

* Maintains positive, respectful, non- confrontational behaviors at all times, even when observing, receiving, or de-escalating disrespectful or disorderly behaviors.

* Make regular rounds to monitor entrances, exits, offices, common areas, and building perimeter.

* Work collaboratively with service providers and administrative staff to maintain an orderly environment.

* Carries Narcan on person at all times while on duty, utilizes nasal Narcan to reverse drug overdose when needed.

* Works with local law enforcement when needed, and helps maintain overall safety of the program.

Administrative and Documentation Responsibilities:

* Documents client services in client record within 24 hours of delivery, and in compliance with agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, 42-CFR, DMH, and SAPC standards.

* Completes Incident Reports as needed

* Provides Front Desk coverage as needed

* Actively participates in agency, Pasadena site, and assigned team meetings.

* Works collaboratively with other members of the Care Coordination team.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Certified Peer Specialists encouraged to apply.

* HS Diploma or GED required.

* Ability to pass background check.

* Familiarity with various supportive counseling strategies and wellness and recovery principles in working with clients with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring conditions, preferred.

* Trained in crisis de-escalation tactics.

* Ability to work with local law enforcement and leadership onsite.

* Knowledge of Los Angeles community behavioral health and public health systems.

* At least 2-4 years of 'lived experience' with the community behavioral health system and/or criminal justice system preferred.

* Demonstrated ability to interface well with diverse, disadvantaged populations with multiple barriers to educational and vocational success, including low literacy, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, history of incarceration, and impaired cognitive functioning.

* Proven ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, community organizations, and the broader community.

* Team orientation and able to independently assume responsibility.

* Excellent verbal and written communication, planning and time management skills.

* Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet applications.

* Ability to respond quickly and use good judgment in unusual and emergency situations.

* Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
