  • Serve as a Dental Assistant, ensuring quality care within the scope of RCW 18.260.040 and WAC 246-817-520.
  • Assist with retail Optometry services, providing crucial support to our eye care patients.
  • Support our Behavioral Health department with patient intake and administrative tasks when needed.

If you're a versatile, patient-focused professional looking to grow in a supportive and community-oriented healthcare environment, we want to hear from you!GENERAL SUMMARY:The Family Medicine Clinical Assistant is responsible for supporting clinical and non-clinical functions of the Dental, Optometry, Behavioral Health, and Family Medicine Clinics. The Clinical Assistant will function as a Dental Assistant, assist with retail Optometry services, and support the Behavioral Health department with patient intake as needed. The clinical assistant must maintain the Standards and Scope of Practice for the Dental Assistant (RCW 18.260.040, WAC 246-817-520). The Assistant works collaboratively with colleagues and departments throughout the organization to provide optimal patient outcomesQualificationsMinimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):Safety Sensitive per WASB5123: NoEducation / Licensure:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Dental Assistant Registered required, or Certified Dental Assistant
  • BLS required
Experience:
  • One year experience as a Dental Assistant is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated experience with front-office clinic duties, including insurance authorization, is also strongly preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Greet and assist patients. Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians, and the community
  • Must be able to work in a stressful, fast-paced environment and take appropriate action
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Keen attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience with using everyday tools (e.g., email, data retrieval, voicemail, and internet/intranet) as well as the ability to utilize an electronic medical record effectively
  • Proficiency with basic computer programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and a typing speed of 40+ words per minute
  • Ability to promote the delivery of exceptional customer service to both internal (patients and staff) and external customers (visitors and vendors)
  • Ability to work productively and cohesively within a team and resolve conflict in a positive manner
  • Adaptability is essential to manage the needs of a department with unpredictable volume and limited staff
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to the age of the patients served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and provides service according to the identified age-specific needs
  • Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards
  • Assists provider or nurse with patient care, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks
  • Prepares exam room and maintains adequate inventory of medical, office, and pharmaceutical supplies necessary for treatment
  • Coordinates patient flow by rooming and preparing the patient for the provider assessment
  • Administers medications under the direct supervision of a physician within the scope of practice of a Registered Dental Assistant
  • Record patient information and maintain accurate medical records. Observe, record, and report (to the provider) the patient's condition and reaction to drugs and/or treatments.
  • Instructs patient/family regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and health/wellness issues utilizing available resources
  • Assists physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner with exams and procedures within the scope of practice for a Registered Dental Assistant
  • Accurately documents patient history, vital signs, immunizations, and allergies in the patient record.
  • Responsible for scheduling clinic appointments
  • Ensures prior authorization has been obtained from the insurance company prior to treatment
  • Tracks and routes test results to the provider(s) for review and communicate test results to patients when deemed appropriate by the provider.
  • Processes orders appropriately and accurately
  • Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures
  • Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition
  • Monitors and cleans patient examination rooms, unit areas, and unit equipment
  • Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing patient records, locating and compiling charts, obtaining medical records from other providers, and entering charges for billing purposes
  • Promotes accuracy and attention to detail in all paperwork completed
  • Provides patients with educational materials as directed
  • Prepares set up for sterile procedures
  • Obtains vital signs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
