Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospitalists There are available positions for full-time or part-time 12-month (July 1-June 30 service period), annual appointments. Anticipated start date is May 1, 2025, or soon thereafter. Position Description The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has exceptional full and part-time opportunities to join our growing Academic Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospitalist service at University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake (UWMC-Montlake) at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. UW Medicine is the premier academic medical center in Washington state, encompasses 4 hospitals in the Seattle metro area, and is the primary referral hospital for the five-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) region. The department supports a residency program, three fellowship programs, and is a major teaching site for UW medical students. UWMC-Montlake is a busy tertiary care center which offers an integrated approach to obstetrics, balancing high-risk and low-risk cases, with approximately 2,300 deliveries per year. Our volume has steadily grown over the last 5 years, and we anticipate continued future growth. Our labor and delivery unit has a high-level of interdisciplinary collaboration with anesthesia, neonatal/pediatric and nursing colleagues. A 1.0 FTE Academic OBGYN Hospitalist faculty member at UWMC-Montlake provides ample time for both clinical and administrative responsibilities. Clinical responsibilities add up to 73 shifts per year, or an average of six 24-hour shifts per month. This shift count accounts for generous, paid four-week vacation and two-week CME benefits. 24-hour call is in-house, always with a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) attending back-up, and typically with a MFM or Generalist OBGYN fellow/partner.Primary clinical responsibilities include:
  • Evaluation of patients in OB triage
  • Consultation and surgical coverage for midwifery colleagues on labor and delivery
  • Direct inpatient care on the labor and postpartum services
  • Procedural and bedside teaching with OB resident team (staffed 24/7)
  • Labor management, Attending surgeon in cesarean sections, operative and spontaneous vaginal deliveries
  • Consultation and surgical management for GYN patients in the UW-Montlake Emergency Department and Inpatient hospital services
Administrative time is allotted for the following:
  • Attendance to monthly Division meetings
  • Attendance to departmental presentations, such as Grand Rounds and M&M Conference
  • Contributions to the training of residents and medical students
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives for the labor and delivery unit. Examples include OB sepsis working group, NTSV committee, and substance use in pregnancy working group.
As a part-time (0.50 FTE) position, clinical responsibilities add up to 48 shifts per year, or an average of four 24-hour shifts per month without vacation, CME, or administrative time included. The full-time salary range for this position will be: $19,167 - $25,000?per month ($230,004 - $300,000?annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.?This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Candidates will be expected to provide medical services at our clinical sites, train residents and medical students, and make academic contributions to the field. Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent.
  • Board eligibility/certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology and an excellent record of clinical service.
  • Two years of work experience is preferred; however, we will happily consider new Ob/Gyn residency graduates and hospitalist fellowship graduates with academic career interests.
  • Gynecologic surgical proficiency required. Robotic experience is not necessary.
  • All candidates must be eligible for and able to maintain a Washington State medical license.
