We are looking for someone who is a go getting, enjoys a challenge, and will roll up their sleeves and work cohesively side by side with our already experienced and talented techs! This role is a working lead and will be required to work the bench, while also working collaboratively with the Lab Director and Lab Supervisor on day to day department needs, staffing, and scheduling. Job Summary: Lead Medical Technologist shall perform tests that require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal supervision by the director or supervisor in only those specialties or subspecialties in which they are qualified by education, training, and experience. Adhering to the Code of Conduct and the Corporate Compliance Plan (CCP) at St. James Hospital. Must maintain current NYSDOH license and any associated education requirements for licensure. Main Daily Functions:
  • Perform routine and complex testing as needed.
  • Covers shifts bench work as needed.
  • Troubleshoots instrumentation as needed.
  • Oversees daily operations of assigned section(s).
  • Possesses attention to detail when task.
  • Reviews instrument maintenance and or function checks are performed.
  • Performs calibration and troubleshoots instrumentation as needed.
  • Helps with gathering documentation during TJC, NYSCLEP, or other regulatory agencies' inspections.
  • Performs inventory lab supplies and submits requests online.
  • Review exceptional & correction reports as assigned by management.
  • Reviews and printouts, for example, Bio-Rad monthly and Accutrak reports.
  • Participation in correlation studies.

  • Participates in department and/or system wide team dynamic initiatives.
  • Provides day-to-day support of workflow within the work unit; including disseminating information, assigning staff to cover for absences, providing technical assistance, providing training assistance to new employees, answering questions, and resolving problems as directed by the Lab Supervisor or Lab Manager.
  • Acts as a team player and works collaboratively within the team and organization.
  • Assists with developing priorities, goals, and action plans.
  • Responds to requests from Laboratory Manager.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to assist with evaluation of programs and services.

  • Identifies better, faster, more efficient ways of doing tasks as well as eliminates unnecessary work and all non-value-added activities to enable a focus on work that generates greater value.
  • Responds to requests from Clinical Manager, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to assist with evaluation of programs and services. Communicates with Supervisor regarding cost savings initiatives and planning.
  • Utilizes understanding of regulatory requirements to identify ways to improve process quality and compliance.

Knowledge of medical terminology, the ability to multitask, critical thinking skills, proficiency in computer software and databases are necessary. Successful completion of on-site training/orientation process is required.Language AbilityAbility to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific/trade/technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies.
