Job Description :
Responsible for providing psychological evaluations, clinical consultation, and crisis evaluations for residents in Vanderheyden's DSS Programs. Provide consultation to clinicians, and residential supervisors. Attend treatment team meetings, and CSE meetings. Provides in-service training to school, clinical and residential staff. Supervises agency IRA Behaviorist and Diagnostic Clinician. Attends Human Rights Committee meetings. Oversees the psychiatric hospitalization of youth as needed. Primary Duties & Essential Functions:
  • Complies with all requirements of 29l Licensure.
  • Compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations to include NYSED Guidelines.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of psychiatric diagnoses as they pertain to children and adolescents.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Dept. of Social Services, Family Court, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services and their various roles in the care of youth.
  • Ensures knowledge about the continuum of care available to youth, with the strengths and weaknesses of each level of care.
  • Understand needs of the consumer of psychological evaluation reports including DSS, Family Court Judges, and CSE.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of family needs and capabilities in providing for the care of youth with psychiatric/behavioral difficulties.
  • Produce reports that are both professionally written and can be understood by the lay reader.
  • Produce reports that are informative and provide practical direction.
  • Produce reports that integrate information from all available sources.
  • Provide consultation that reflects an understanding of both the staff and youth abilities and limitations.
  • Provides services that both educate and encourage staff, in order to enhance their performance.
  • Participate in agency activities both formal (committee meetings) and informal (picnics).
Required Education, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Degree from A.P.A and or N.Y.S accredited University.
  • Current NYS license as a psychologist.
  • Expertise in clinical child, adolescent and family psychology.
  • At least 3 years' experience full time post graduate experience performing psychological evaluations and treatment for youth and families.
  • Working knowledge of NYS family court, DSS and nonprofit residential treatment services.
  • Expertise in providing clinical supervision to Master Levels Clinicians.
