OverviewOrrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Cloud Applications Engineer. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations. Our preference is for the position to be based in our Global Operations & Innovation Center in Wheeling, WV. What I will do: As a Cloud Applications Engineer you will manage Microsoft 365 and other SaaS environments, establishing governance models and advocating for cloud solutions within our IT organization. This role evaluates business processes, identifies improvement opportunities using M365 or other cloud services, and assists with implementation and change management. The engineer provides guidance and training to IT staff transitioning from on-premises to SaaS applications. The Cloud Applications Engineer collaborates with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Trainers, Process Owners, Application Owners, Third-party Consultants, and End Users to complete global projects and provide subject matter expertise. Interaction with engineers in Applications, Web Engineering, Innovations, Service Operations, Security, and Infrastructure is essential to deliver well-engineered solutions. Candidates must be self-starters with the ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional project teams. How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities: Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, business process owners, and third-party consultants to identify, configure, and implement new workflows and capabilities within Microsoft 365 and other cloud platforms.
- Lead or participate in cloud-specific projects as assigned.
- Provide subject matter expertise to process owners and business analysts to determine when cloud solutions should be used.
- Conduct research and proof-of-concept (POC) projects to evaluate new technologies.
- Guide other engineers and the Service Desk team on cloud applications.
- Work closely with the Technology Training Team to develop user-level training.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of platform integrations with other cloud applications and on-prem systems via APIs and other techniques.
- Stay updated on cloud technologies and trends, bringing forward relevant ideas and enhancements to improve Orrick's processes and use of the Microsoft 365 platform.
- Participate in the on-call support rotation of the Applications Team, requiring knowledge of Orrick's core application suite.
- Perform administrative tasks such as managing user accounts and licensing via interfaces like the Office 365 Admin Center and Windows PowerShell.
- Perform other responsibilities and duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 5 years of experience with Microsoft and other cloud-based applications.
- Technical and administrative expertise in Microsoft 365 SharePoint Online, Teams, Planner, One Drive, and Power BI.
- Experience with third-party tools for Microsoft 365 administration and management.
- Experience supporting the Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI.
- Experience enabling the Power Platform for power users (citizen developers), including establishing proper guiderails, and exposure to the Power Platform CoE.
- Expertise with PowerShell scripting.
- Expertise with Active Directory and EntraID.
- Good understanding of general network concepts.
- Experience leading or working on significant IT projects.
- Experience in the legal or professional services industries preferred.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical staff.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Solid understanding of AI concepts including Copilot.
Nice to have Knowledge and Experience
- Solid database understanding, including SQL queries and cloud/on-prem data environments.
- Expertise with the latest Microsoft server operating systems.
- Experience leveraging APIs and using scripts or third-party applications to access data.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview, including compliance, risk, and security areas such as sensitivity labels, retention policies, and DLP.
- Strong technical and administrative skills in Azure, AWS, or other public cloud platforms.

- California Major Markets* $124,000 - $179,000
- New York City $139,000 - $175,000
- National $113,000 - $144,000
* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.
