The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer acts as a technical advisor and coordinator for all cloud infrastructure platforms, domains and network equipment. This position will architect, design, and evaluate cloud-based software solutions to specifications meeting departmental needs in both AWS and Azure. Participates in the overall functions of the Information Technology Department as well as those of the Infrastructure Team. Works closely with the IS&T Systems and Network Engineering teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides complex cloud infrastructure engineering support.
- Design and prepare demonstrations of AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure systems and products.
- Assists in the determination of needs for AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure products and systems.
- Provides server technical expertise on infrastructure projects and cloud.
- Responsible for new cloud implementations and system upgrades, including receiving and installation of server hardware and installation of operating system software.
- Works with system vendors to resolve issues during cloud installations or migrations.
- Manages cloud-based Infrastructure services such as AWS and Azure.
- Prepares internal use documentation and implementation instructions.
- Advanced Microsoft Active Directory management, design, and support.
- Provides training for internal IT staff regarding new systems or changes to current systems.
- Augments Systems Administrators with daily support duties and service desk incidents, request and on/off boarding of users.
- Acts as project leader on new cloud projects and preventive maintenance projects.
- Design cloud-based infrastructure solutions where data and applications can be managed in a secure and reliable environment.
- Evaluation of new utilities to assist teams by providing new tools to increase productivity and provide better service to customers.
- Assists in the preparation of the budget but submitting requirements for the next fiscal year.
- Maintenance and Performance.
- Monitor networks and cloud-based architecture for health, disk space, security and overall performance, resolving issues that arise.
- Performs the installation, upgrading, and patching of all infrastructure supported network hardware and communications software products.
- Prioritizes, tests, and applies server software service packs and patches as needed in security, functionality, and virus protection.
- Continuous review of Infrastructure Team processes and documentation.
- Maintains a high degree of server engineering knowledge and overall computer expertise.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of five years of engineering in a cloud-based IT environment
- A solid understanding of AWS and Azure cloud architecture principles and best practices.
- Expertise in AWS services such as EC2, EKS, S3, DynamoDB, etc.
- Experience with Azure services such as Azure Compute, Storage, Networking, Virtual Machines, and Databases.
- Experience with scripting and automation tools like PowerShell and Azure CLI.
- Knowledge of security best-practices for cloud environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, Azure/o365, AWS, and VMware
