Position Type:Student Support ServicesDate Posted:9/24/2024Location:Ottawa Area Center (OAC)Date Available:ASAPClosing Date:Until filled Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for Student CareLocation: Ottawa Area Center SchoolReports To: School Administrator(s)Job Summary:We are seeking a compassionate and qualified Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to provide dedicated care to a severely disabled student within the school environment. This position involves direct one-on-one support, including tracheotomy care, personal hygiene, mobility assistance, and ensuring safety while traveling on the school bus. The CNA will collaborate with teachers, school staff, and healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being of the student.Key Responsibilities:Tracheotomy Care:* Perform routine tracheostomy care, including suctioning and monitoring the tracheostomy site.* Ensure the tracheostomy tube remains clear of obstructions.* Monitor the student's respiratory status and provide emergency interventions if required.* Follow all medical protocols and care plans provided by the student's healthcare team.Daily Student Support:* Assist the student with activities of daily living (ADLs), including toileting, dressing, grooming, and feeding.* Administer medications as prescribed and document as required.* Monitor vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels) and report any concerns to the school nurse or healthcare provider.* Provide assistance with mobility, including transferring in and out of a wheelchair as necessary.Transportation Assistance:* Accompany the student on the school bus, ensuring safety and comfort throughout the ride.* Provide emergency care on the bus as needed, including suctioning and monitoring tracheostomy status during transportation.* Work with bus drivers and aides to ensure a smooth and safe journey to and from school.Collaboration & Communication:* Work closely with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to maintain open communication about the student's condition and care plan.* Document daily care activities, incidents, and observations in the student's medical file.* Attend meetings and training sessions related to the student's care plan.Emergency Response:* Be prepared to act in emergency situations, such as choking, respiratory distress, or other medical emergencies.* Follow proper first aid procedures and communicate with emergency medical services when necessary.Qualifications:* Certification:* Active CNA License (in MI)Experience:* Previous experience providing care to individuals with tracheostomies and other complex medical needs is preferred.Skills and Abilities:* * Proficient in tracheostomy care, suctioning, and emergency response.* Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team.* Ability to lift and transfer the student as needed.* Compassionate, patient, and able to provide a calming presence.Additional Requirements:* * CPR and First Aid certification.* Ability to pass a background check and meet all school district requirements for working with children.Working Conditions:* The position requires working in a school setting, providing care to a student during school hours and on the school bus.* Physical effort is required to assist the student with mobility and transfers.* Potential exposure to bodily fluids and medical equipment.Schedule:* Full-time position, following the school's schedule, including morning and afternoon bus routes.* Monday through Thursday.* Approximately 8 to 8.5 hours per day.Compensation:* Grade 14: $26.15 - $27.74 per hour depending on certification, experinece, and expertise
