POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant (Research).

The Laboratory Assistant will report to the Manager, Vaccine Center Lab and Clinical Operations Manager at the Vaccine Center - Brooklyn Site, the incumbent will be responsible for processing, shipping, and transporting biospecimens and collection kits from the main lab to multiple collection facilities daily. Maintains inventory ensuring all supplies is continuously available and maintains electronic and paper based documentation associated with biospecimens processed on a daily basis. Responsible for interacting with all members of the vaccine center as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs other duties as assigned; Adheres to department policies and procedures.
  • Processes and ships study collected specimens.
  • Transports Clinical Trial biofluid specimens from collection facilities to the processing laboratory throughout the day.
  • Tracks specimen chain of custody and monitors daily specimens receipt from the collection facilities.
  • Assists with collection kit assembly for Clinical Trial Biofluid specimens.
  • Delivers kits to appropriate collection facility prior to collection and tracks collection kit chain of custody.
  • Monitors and maintains electronic and physical supply inventories for Clinical Trial studies and sample processing reagents.
  • Assists with the set up and shipment of specific collection kits for multi-institutional studies ordered through iLab system.
  • Monitors telephone notifications for specimen pickups from collection facilities
  • Understands the principles of basic research tests performed in research clinical trials in relation to collection kit inventory, assembly, and specimen transport.
  • Works with and assists the Processing team with general Laboratory tasks as needed.
  • Follows relevant Standard Operating Procedures and/or work instructions regarding specimen transport and kit assembly/delivery.

ADDITIONAL POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Position requires someone able to work at both the Vaccine Center Brooklyn site and Manhattan Labs as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • To qualify you must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand the principles of basic research tests performed in research clinical trials in relation to collection kit inventory, assembly, and specimen transport.
  • Ability and desire to work in a team setting at a fast pace.
  • Strong organizational skills, as well as patience and steady commitment toward achievement of goals.
  • Good analytical skills to evaluate the importance and urgency of problems.
  • Ability to solve non-routine issues.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Execute their work in accordance with standards of the Federal Regulations relating to Human Subjects.
  • Excellent communication, administrative and time management skills are necessary.
