Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. May communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. May identify and repair minor machine malfunctions. Keeps detailed records to in order perform machine maintenance, calibrate all necessary items according to manufacturer guidelines. Maintains a clean work environment.Essential Functions Read and understand instructions and drawings and apply appropriate calculations to accurately produce work.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, layouts, engineering information and job orders to determine methods or sequences of operations to fabricate products.
  • Read work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or material requirements.
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances of workpieces or products, and machine settings.
  • Confer with engineering, supervision, or other manufacturing personnel to clarify or exchange technical information.
Set up, control, and monitor material, machines, and processes.
  • Follow established safe work procedures for operating various manufacturing equipment and tools.
  • Set up, program, adjust, and operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machine operations.
  • Select and measure raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.
  • Control the operation of equipment or systems. Machine parts to specifications using lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders, as applicable.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of the machines during the machining process.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories or materials onto the machines.
  • Check and ensure that new programs or machinery will function properly and that the output will meet specifications. Operate the equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate machining procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability.
  • Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated or cooled.
Quality control.
  • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition.
  • Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Communicate material, equipment, and tool concerns to supervisor, engineer, or Operations Director.
  • Separate scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
  • Dispose of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
Inspect, repair, and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Perform basic equipment machine maintenance.
  • Dismantle machines or equipment to examine parts for defects and replace defective or worn parts where needed.
  • Refill, change, and monitor the level of oil or coolant fluids in machines.
  • Diagnose machine tool malfunctions to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
Document and record information.
  • Prepare working sketches for the illustration of product appearance.
Cross-train on valve assembly and automation.Other tasks, duties, or projects as needed or requested.EDUCATIONMinimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 12 months of recent machining experience
  • Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
  • Ability to use standard precision measuring tools
  • Understanding of basic CNC programming
  • Ability to perform basic math problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percent conversion)
  • Ability to follow work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects
Preferred:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of CNC machining experience within the past five (5) years
  • Minimum of five (5) years of valve manufacturing/repair or industrial manufacturing experience
  • Trade or Vocational School specifically focused on Machining
  • Machinist Certification (Milling I, Grinding I, CNC Mill Programming Setup and Operations, and/or Manufacturing Technician Level I Certification)
COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook & Word)
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook & Word)
  • Knowledge of J.D. Edwards
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:Work environment
  • Exposure to manufacturing environment.
  • Noise level may vary from moderate office environment to noisy/loud in the work/shop area.
  • Proper use of safety equipment such as steel-toed shoes, goggles, safety glasses, gloves, apron and face shield must be observed.

Ability to conduct tests and inspections of finished products to evaluate quality of work to established standards. Ability to determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it.

Physical Requirements:
  • General Physical Activities. Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of fingers, arms and legs and moving whole body, such as observing, hearing, climbing, lifting, carrying, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Handling and Moving Objects. Use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
