Sets up and operates computer numerical control (CNC) lathe machines to create tools and machine parts. Their responsibilities include:

Setting up the machineFollowing blueprint specifications to select and align holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto the machine Operating the machineEnsuring the machine runs smoothly and efficiently to produce precise components. This includes monitoring the machine for malfunctions and out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusting the program as needed. Performing quality assurance checks Measuring workpieces and verifying dimensions using tools like calipers or micrometers to ensure parts match specifications. They may also document or discard defects. Maintaining the machinePerforming routine maintenance on the machine, such as replacing worn tools and cleaning debris. Following safety regulationsMaintaining a safe and clean workstation. Other responsibilities of a CNC lathe operator may include:

Fabricating items Modifying program speeds Meeting production schedules Conferring with engineers, programmers, and supervisors
