L&M Radiator, Inc. is a global designer, manufacturer, and distributor or MESABI cooling and heat transfer solutions that are custom-made for heavy equipment in the mining, oil, gas, construction, and heavy industrial industries. We are looking for a motivated individual who has experience using CNC machines and is comfortable operating forklifts, jib cranes, and overhead cranes. How will you make a difference? As a member of the Machining Department, you will be responsible for programming, operating, and machining parts for Production. The machine shop team works with various tools and equipment daily - manual mills, CNC machines, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other common machine equipment. This position works directly with other machinists, the machine shop supervisor, welding, and steek prep. Dependent on the project, this position may also work with Application Engineering, Production Engineering, Quality, and Research and Development to help us improve and develop our products, machinery, and processes and procedures. This position reports directly to the machine shop supervisor. This position rotates shifts every other week on days and afternoons. Day shift operates Monday through Friday 6:00am - 2:00pm. Afternoon operates Monday through Friday 2:00pm through 10:00pm. OT is possible depending on production needs. What do we want to know about you?
- High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of machining experience.
- 18 years or older.
- Blueprint reading experience.
- Experience with drill press, turret lathe, manual mill, hyd-mech automatic ban saw, and Sharpe 1640V lathe.
- Programing and/or operating CNC Vertical Machining Center
What will your typical day look like? - Operate and maintain lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, CNC machines and other common machine equipment.
- Follow prints, sketches, instructions, and procedures to ensure quality and accuracy of fabrication and specifications.
- Assist R&D Department, as needed.
- Report any production problems to supervisor.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Operate, maintain, and repair pneumatic and measuring equipment.
- Operate forklifts, jib cranes and overhead cranes.
- Follow instructions using SP's, SWI, SJPs and TWI breakdowns, as applicable.
- Problem solving and finding solutions.
- Perform work in a safe manner and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Occasional weekend work may be required.
- Domestic and international travel possible depending on the project.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor, in other areas of production as needed and qualified.
What about the physical demands of the job? - Wear correct PPE - earplugs, protective eye wear, steel-toed boots, and work provided uniform (gloves when necessary).
- Bend, lift, and carry 50lb pieces.
- Stand on concrete for 8-10 hours.
- Work in high heat conditions.
- Practice and maintain safe work conditions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required for Entry Level: - Regular and reliable attendance.
- Knowledgeable in areas of machining, blueprint and technical reading required.
- General knowledge of various metals.
- Detail orientated, precise and accurate.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong initiative.
- Ability to communicate, in English, effectively and clearly by both written and verbal means.
- Dependability under both supervised and unsupervised conditions, be a team player.
- Basic math skills, read tape measures, calipers, micrometers and other measuring tools.
- Experience working with CNC machines, lathes, mills, and other shop equipment.
- Must be able to lift to 50-75lbs. consistently, bend, stand, twist, pull, and push heavy objects.
- Ability to lift overhead, pull product from low standing areas, and stand on concrete for long periods of time.
- Computer skills needed for programming.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment written math test, physical, drug and background test.
Preferred Qualifications: - 2-year technical degree in Machining or similar field with 5 years of experience in the field.
- Experience with Solid Cam or similar programming software.
- Knowledge of Epicor or similar ERP system.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing Principles or Six Sigma.
