This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Coastal Restoration Professional for our Tallahassee, Florida office and Earth and Environment Business Line. This position will lead or support multidisciplinary natural resources management teams to obtain grant funding; conduct biological fieldwork (e.g., wetland delineations, habitat classification, threatened and endangered species surveys, seagrass surveys, and water quality monitoring etc.); provide technical, permitting, and project management support to a variety of public and private sector clients, for coastal or other habitat restoration, resiliency planning, or development projects.

Candidates must have a willingness and interest in learning about and supporting a variety of environmental projects.

Your Impact

* Work with WSP Project Directors, Project Managers, and other technical staff to lead or support a variety of environmental projects, including coastal habitat restoration and monitoring projects, resiliency planning projects, permitting for coastal infrastructure, grant applications and management, and other projects, as needed.

* Oversee and monitor (i.e., serve as a Project Manager) cross-functional teams in executing project work, including tracking project budgets, labor hours and expenses, and subcontractor costs, and invoicing.

* Oversee or support fieldwork related to coastal restoration/resiliency and other development projects (e.g., wetland delineations; habitat classification; threatened and endangered species surveys; seagrass surveys; faunal [bird, fish, oyster, and crab surveys] surveys; benthic surveys; and water quality monitoring, etc.) and as needed, assessment and remediation of contaminated sites (e.g., surface water, soil, groundwater, sediment, and air sampling etc.).

* Coordinate/oversee collection, analysis, and reporting of environmental monitoring/survey data including habitat characterization/mapping, water quality parameters, shoreline change, and coastal land use.

* Analyze coastal conditions and assist with planning/design/permitting of various coastal and near-shore habitat restoration projects, with a focus on coastal protection/resiliency.

* Prepare or review comprehensive memorandums, technical reports, and presentations that explain research, methodologies, findings, and recommendations for coastal restoration or similar projects.

* Assist with business development, profitable opportunity identification, and proposal writing including the scoping and costing of small- to medium-sized projects, development of presentations, and professional networking.

* Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and technical staff in a confident and professional manner.

* Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.

* Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory documentation, and logbooks.

* Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of coastal biological datasets.

* Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

* Perform additional responsibilities and support various other projects, as needed, to achieve client goals, address company needs, and achieve company success.

* Self-manage assigned workload.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in environmental science, the natural sciences (e.g., biology, ecology, marine biology, etc.), the physical sciences (geology), environmental or coastal engineering, or an equivalent field of study.

* 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience.

* Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

* Willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment and satisfy project needs.

* Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset and positive and can-do attitude.

* Demonstrated time management and organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

* Comfortable working in a variety of work settings (e.g., remote and urban areas), temperatures, and weather conditions with ability to lift 50 lbs. of field equipment.

* Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and ability to express ideas effectively and professionally to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

* Strong work ethic to ensure job requirements are completed (safety first).

* Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

* General familiarity with the concepts of living shorelines, nature-based solutions, and coastal restoration practices.

* General familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements

* Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, general office software (i.e., MS Word and Excel, and PowerPoint), spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

* Ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

* Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

* Domestic travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements and could include one to two weeks of travel per month.

* Possess a valid driver's license and be capable of driving work vehicles (i.e., vans and trucks).

* Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.

* Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam.

* Capable of passing 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training course.

Other or Preferred Qualifications:

* Ability to swim, and comfortable conducting in-water work, including snorkeling and skin diving, while supporting coastal restoration jobs.

* Comfortable occasionally working off a boat. Completion of Florida Boating Safety Course considered a plus.

* Some experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and operating GPS equipment (e.g., hand-held Trimble units, RTK GPS units, etc.) is preferred.

* Interest in, or prior experience in operating unmanned aerial vehicles (i.e., drones) is preferred.

* Master's Degree is considered a plus.
