This position will be responsible for creating presentations, develops learning material, handbooks and other training materials both on paper and electronically. Works closely with our auditing group (internal and external) in order to coordinate and to complete follow up education based on the audit results. Provides testing and onboarding with new billers/coders/providers to ensure documentation and billing compliance.Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Educator will work closely with Compliance team to be certain that appropriate coding/documentation deficiencies are addressed within the proper protocols setup by IPM. This role will ensure that all of the pertinent steps are taken before a biller/coder/provider is released to code/document without administrative oversite. This position will provide executive level presentations in order to keep IPM Leadership advised of the coding/documentation audit results and resolutions.
- Develops coding educations material within conjunction of audit results in orders to customize post audit training
- Plans and coordinates with audit team to prepare for audits by suspending claim submission and analyzing all results prior to educational development
- Initiate post audit protocols as determined by Compliance in order to take proper steps to limit the continuation of inaccurate coding/documentation.
- Demonstrates excellent initiative and judgement. Works independently applying effective approaches to time management and meeting deadlines. Exhibits outstanding decision making and customer service
- Cultivates and maintains positive and productive business relationships with CBO leadership, Market Managers, Practice Administrators/Managers, Corporate staff, vendors, providers and coders. Works collaboratively to improve processes, communicate barriers within documentation, coding and all other aspects of the revenue cycle
- Promotes a work environment of accountability and ownership. Sets appropriate standards of performance and communicates clear expectations coders and providers. Shows direct and tangible evidence of coaching, mentoring and professional development
- Works collaboratively with audit team and compliance in order to address ongoing or potential issues within the coding/documentation process
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5-8 years minimum working in a healthcare (professional) billing, health insurance or equivalent operations work environment.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification required.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Results oriented with a proven track record of accomplishing tasks and building high-performing teams.
- Code and abstract clinical and demographic data for inpatient, outpatient, or clinic encounters using standardized coding regulations.
- Expert knowledge of ICD10, CPT, HCPCs and related coding/abstracting rules and guidelines.
- Expert knowledge of medical terminology.
- Identify and resolve clinical documentation and charge capture data discrepancies to improve quality of the clinical documentation, severity and reimbursement levels assigned, integrity of data reported.
- Audit and educate multidisciplinary team members, including physicians, as it pertains to frequently changing mandated rules, regulations and guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
Education:
- Associates Degree or approved equivalent combination of coursework and related experience or extensive related experience is required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
