POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Professional Coding Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in professional coding and a passion for educating. This role involves developing and delivering comprehensive educational programs to train coders and professionals in the intricacies of coding, ensuring they are proficient in the latest industry standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Curriculum Development:

  • Design, develop, and update educational content, handouts, and other educational material for coders and providers.
  • Incorporate current trends, technologies, and best practices in medical coding.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Create and administer audits to evaluate coders progress and understanding. Perform documentation review to ensure coders can code to the highest specificity.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to help coders achieve their professional objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of coder performance and progress.

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with changes in medical coding standards, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Attend professional development workshops, webinars, and training sessions.
  • Share insights and updates with the team to continually improve the educational program.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with leadership, clinical staff and coders to ensure cohesive and comprehensive education delivery.
  • Participate in program improvement initiatives.
  • Engage with industry professionals to ensure program relevance and alignment with industry needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or 6 years related experience in Health Information Management, Medical Coding Auditing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Current certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS, COC) required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical coding auditing strongly preferred.
  • Previous teaching, auditing, or training experience highly preferred.
  • Specialty Certifications (e.g., CPMA, CIRCC, CDEO, CEMC, CGIC, CPEDC, RHIA, RHIT) highly preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, anatomy, pathophysiology, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Proficient in using educational technology and virtual learning platforms.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
