This role involves the accurate classification of medical data, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and conducting assessments to optimize resource use and patient care. Coding & Health Information Specialist has a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of health information systems while supporting healthcare providers in delivering quality services. JOB REQUIREMENTS:KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Proficiently be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- In-depth understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
- Proficient in interpretation medical terminology, diagnosis, and treatments.
- Knowledge of HIPPA, CMS guidelines, and other relevant laws pertaining to data security and compliance.
- Familiarity with EHR systems, preferably EPIC software.
- Understanding of medical necessity criteria to determine appropriate coding.
- Basic knowledge of billing, insurance claims, and reimbursement processes.
- Must be able to work independently and be able to work effectively as a team member.
- Commitment to quality control analysis.
- Ability to participate and self-educate for job related needs.
- Basic knowledge of Critical Access Health (CAH) and Rural Health Clinic (RHC) regulations.
- Assume the role of the Security Officer, responsible for overseeing the privacy and confidentiality of both paper and electronic records.
- Lead the annual and monthly reporting of statistics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree in medical administration, medical coding, health information management, or related field is preferred.
- Registered as a Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a Registered Health Information Tech (RHIT), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS-H) or have graduated from a Health Information Management Administration or Technician program or AHIMA Coding Basics program to be eligible to take the AHMIA registration/certification examination is preferred.
- 1-year general medical coding and health information management experience (preferred)
- Must have excellent communication skills, ability and confidence to interact with physicians, patients/family, nursing and other ancillary staff in sensitive situations.
- Must have the ability to coordinate measures of quality and productivity and a system for evaluating.
- Must have good technical skills related to HIM/UR.
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Experience with HIPAA regulations
- Must pass MN background check and fingerprinting.
- Complete TB test within the first 3 weeks of employment.
