DescriptionTitle: Collection Services Manager Reports to: Library Director Nature of Work Under the direction of the Library Director, the Collection Services Manager oversees the operations of Jackson District Library's (JDL's) Collection Services department and provides leadership and supervisory support to its staff. Responsibilities include managing a large department that coordinates selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing, inter-library loan, and delivery for our thirteen branches and bookmobile. This position sits on the Library's Leadership Team, representing the Collection Services department, and working in partnership with teammates to collaborate on strategic planning and development of policies and services along with other district-wide initiatives. Oversees and participates in the effective operation of the integrated library system software in cooperation with the Systems Analyst and other relevant staff members. - Ensures systematic expenditure of library materials budget, maintenance of an audit trail, appropriate vendor selection, and use of library funds. Prepares budgetary and other reports as needed.
- Participates in leadership and professional development by attending conferences and other training.
Collection Development
- Plans, organizes, and manages a broad program of work activities related to purchasing, preparing, and maintaining all library materials, and the storing or withdrawing of materials from all JDL locations.
- Represents the interests of the Jackson District Library by leading strategic initiatives related to improving access and discovery.
- Oversees negotiations with vendors, understands licensing for electronic resources, publishing industry trends, and can translate the impact industry trends may have on JDL's print and digital collection development strategy.
- Manages collection analysis, making data-informed decisions regarding both print and digital collections, and identifying opportunities for improvement in processes and services.
- Assesses, creates and reviews collection management policies and procedures to ensure alignment with user needs and to maintain current and relevant collections.
Acquisitions, Processing, and Interlibrary Loan
- Plans, coordinates, and oversees the day-to-day collection services functions of the district, including acquisitions, cataloging and metadata, processing, e-resource management, and interlibrary loan.
- Manages resources to optimize productivity and collaboration, contributing to continuous process improvement in operations.
- Consults with vendors and publisher representatives to develop value-added services and facilitate efficient acquisition of library materials.
- Researches, determines, and procures necessary resources for the acquisitions, cataloging, and processing of library materials and interlibrary loan service.

- Knowledge of cataloging standards, rules, and guidelines including Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, MARC bibliographic records, and OCLC's cataloging services.
Employment Qualification
- Possession of a master's degree in library science or the equivalent from an ALA accredited institution.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible management or supervision experience as a professional librarian in the area of technical services and two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements Ability to stand, sit, bend, twist, stoop, reach and grasp, walk, push, pull or lift materials or equipment weighing 15 pounds or more, drive a motor vehicle and manually manipulate computer keyboard, mouse and scanner etc. Additional Requirements Ability to travel to branches and other remote sites, travel to workshops and seminars, read and write, type and operate advanced computer software, perform mathematical functions, communicate effectively, work a determined schedule, take and follow direction, work well with co-workers, patrons and management, organize work successfully, maintain confidentiality, give attention to detail, maintain a positive customer service attitude, (internal and external), meet deadlines, work independently without supervision, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
