Regional SettingFor information on Tacoma and the surrounding area: Part-Time Faculty positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Position Highlights This position is responsible for preparing and teaching the College Success course (formerly HD 101) offered at Tacoma Community College as a stand-alone course or as part of a learning community. This position will support the ongoing programs within Tacoma Community College's Exploratory Experience, part of our Guided Pathways work. Essential Functions Prepare, teach, and assess outcomes in TCC's College Success Course Assess student learning and use data to improve teaching and learning Participate in the development and review of curriculum Maintain current knowledge in the field of college success and culturally responsive pedagogy Perform related duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Adult education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Advising, Developmental Studies, Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university. -OR- Bachelor's degree and at least two years' experience with community college advising / case management Conditions of Employment Successfully complete a criminal history background check prior to employment. Demonstrated Qualities and Commitments of a Successful Candidate: Ethics and integrity, and sound professional judgment. Knowledge of and interest in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Graduate course work in college success, counseling and advising, developmental studies, or educational theories and practices. Student-centered classroom teaching experience or equivalent experience working with students. Interest in teaching in learning communities, team teaching, teaching cross-disciplinary courses, or other cohort-centered academic environments. Some experience developing and teaching in online environment (including full online, hybrid, or web-enhanced). Commitment to working with first-generation and other underrepresented groups. Efforts in curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment that foreground anti-racist and culturally responsive practices. Dynamic, non-traditional delivery methods to teach students of widely varying levels of proficiency and from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. Evidence of culturally responsive pedagogical approaches in classroom artifact design Experience using educational technologies as an instructional aid in and out of the classroom. Terms of EmploymentThis is a part time faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Part time faculty salary range is per credit hour starting at $1,208.89 to $1,422.22 . Salary ranges are subject to any approved COLA's after initial placement. If applicable, Lab credit hours are paid at 50% the credit hour rate. Professional Services hours are paid at a flat rate of $44.00-$44.00 per hour. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will commensurate with educational background and experience per the 2024 Faculty Negotiated Agreement(Download PDF reader) (Article 4.00 Academic Employee Compensation ). Part-time faculty may become eligible for healthcare and retirement benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half-time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time. Members may 'stack' workloads between other qualifying colleges. A part-time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach, to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part-time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options. Tacoma Community College offers offers one personal leave day per academic year if the PTF have been awarded a multi-quarter appointment. Sick leave is awarded every quarter based on the full-time equivalent teaching percent.
