Job Title: Commissioned School Security Officer Wage/Hr Status: ExemptReports to: Operations Manager/Safety & Security Director Paygrade: ClassifiedDept./School: Administration Revised: April 2019Primary Purpose:The Commissioned School Security Officer (CSSO) provides a variety of security and safety related functions while involved in safeguarding students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position provides security for equipment and real property in the assigned area, and communicates effectively and respectfully with members of the campus community, supervisors, and peers. The CSSO provides information and directions as needed. This position may be assigned to a specific campus or geographical work area. The Commissioned School Security Officer will have a focus on protecting our students, be team oriented, be a problem solver, and possess the ability to remain calm during emergency and non-emergency situations.Qualifications:Education/Certification:* Minimum of a high school diploma* Certified (Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards & Training) law enforcement preferred and/or minimum of 5 years armed security experience* Certification in CPR* Mental Health/Personal Crisis certified training preferredExperience:* If not law enforcement certified, then 3-5 years of licensed, armed security experience* Military experience preferredMajor responsibilities and duties:* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing* Ability to resolve disputes (may be verbal as well as physical)* Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports* Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures* Ability to drive motor vehicles* Ability to understand and follow safety procedures* Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus* Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel* Knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal law* Knowledge of state truancy laws* Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures* Proficient in basic computer programs (I.E. Word Processor, Excel, Email, etc.)The successful candidate will need to develop expertise in each of these areas to fulfill the vision for the District's safety program. This position requires a high degree of diplomacy, flexibility and adaptability. Applicants must have good communication skills, both written and verbal. The district seeks a safety professional who is a patient, effective and clear communicator with demonstrated problem solving skills.
