Commodity Associate Manager

Position type and expected hours of work: Hours of work will depend on the job event and manager. Evening, nights, and weekend work will be required as job duties demand. This position will have Field time management and Office time also.

Summary: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Commodity Associate Manager to join our team. In this role, you will manage commodity contracts, coordinate logistics, and ensure accurate inventory management across various products, including bakery goods, canola, and cottonseed. You will act as a vital link between our vendors and internal teams, ensuring the smooth flow of commodities and timely resolution of any issues that may arise.

Essential functions:

  • Contract Management: Write and negotiate contracts with vendors, ensuring all terms are clear and adhered to.
  • Sales Coordination: Apply correct sales to appropriate purchases, ensuring accurate accounting of contracts and inventory.
  • Logistics Oversight: Set up and coordinate truck dispatching, including assigning release numbers and specifying pickup/drop-off locations. Handle issues related to dispatch, such as canceled loads, incorrect deliveries, and missed pickups.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of inventory status, ensuring all loads are released from inventory correctly or managed as back-to-back loads.
  • Vendor Communication: Engage with vendors regarding open releases, request new release numbers, and check on the status of pending numbers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain a detailed handwritten log of open release numbers to prevent duplicate load applications and ensure accuracy in inventory records.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve any issues that arise during the dispatching process, including delays and discrepancies, to maintain operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in commodity management, logistics, or supply chain roles.
  • Strong negotiation and contract writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively liaise with vendors and internal teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Physical demands: To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, climb, and hear. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and walk. The employee must occasionally lift. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel: Travel may be frequent depending on the job assigned.
