Position Summary
The Communications Associate plays a crucial role in advancing the mission of Somos Tejas by leading all aspects of our organization's communications strategy. This position is responsible for managing internal and external communications, crafting compelling narratives, and ensuring consistent and impactful messaging across all platforms. The Communications Associate will work closely with the Executive Director and other team members to elevate the organization's profile, engage the community, and support fundraising efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Strategy and Management (50%)- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to enhance the visibility and impact of Somos Tejas.
- Oversee the creation of all communication materials, including press releases, newsletters, reports, and promotional content.
- Ensure brand consistency across all communications channels, including social media, website, email campaigns, and print materials.
- Manage the organization's social media presence, creating and curating content that engages and informs our audience.
Media Relations and Outreach (20%)- Build and maintain relationships with local and regional media outlets to secure coverage of Somos Tejas' initiatives and events.
- Serve as the primary media contact for the organization, responding to inquiries and proactively pitching stories to the press.
- Prepare and coach organizational spokespeople for media interviews, ensuring they are equipped with key messages.
Content Creation and Storytelling (20%)- Lead the development of compelling stories and content that highlight the impact of Somos Tejas' work and the voices of the communities we serve.
- Collaborate with program staff to gather stories, data, and insights that can be used to create engaging content for various platforms.
- Manage the production of multimedia content, including videos, graphics, and photography, to support storytelling efforts.
Internal Communications and Collaboration (10%)- Work closely with the Executive Director and other team members to ensure clear and consistent internal communication.
- Provide communication support for organizational events, including community meetings, workshops, and fundraising events.
- Assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, and other materials for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of experience in a communications role.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a strong ability to craft compelling narratives.
- Experience managing social media platforms and digital communication tools.
- Proven track record of securing media coverage and building relationships with journalists.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: The salary range of this position is $40-$55k, commensurate with experience.
